July 3, 200917 yr Author I readily admit I’m among the biggest critics of Sarah Palin, but her story has certainly been a fascinating one. I’m not sure why she would resign; it’s nonsensical. Was there something on the horizon in Alaska that would derail her? Was she worried about the price of oil making her too unpopular in Alaska? Of course, the most likely explanation is that she is preparing for a 2012 presidential bid. But, that is a miserable strategy if true. From following her and the controversy that has surrounded her since her selection as McCain’s running mate, I think she listens to little advice and adamantly demands her ideas be agreed with. And from what I can tell, they are usually bad ideas – like resigning from the only notable office she has ever had. Sustaining that type of delusion on the national level is virtually impossible. Palin's ineptitudes have been insulated among the Republican "base" by the charge that the media and liberals have unfairly attacked her, thus those criticisms and perceptions of her incompetence can be brushed aside easily. So far, she's merely had to continue to play the victim of a conspiratorial boogeyman without becoming proficient in the policy areas she was so weak on last year. Things will change for her tremendously when these criticisms begin to come from the likes of Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and whoever else throws their Republican hat into the ring. Gone will be the days of playing victim as she will be forced to discuss policy with Republicans who know it far better or accept the exposition of her weaknesses. And I don't see how she will keep her head afloat. At the same time, this could be her way of pulling her hat out of the ring for '12. It's perfectly plausible that she is resigning from politics completely - perhaps she found herself incapable of governing or had family issues. She'll be able to make a living from speeches, book deals, or some sort of punditry. However, I still think this is all part of her delusion and ambition for a presidential run. Maybe she'll use that free time wisely by taking some remedial courses on geography and political science, among others. While humorous, devoting all of her time to becoming conversant on national issues is realistically the only reason to be doing this. Yet, she certainly could have finished out her term. And based on her debate performance and the stories emanating from the McCain campaign, she has little interest in acquiring more knowledge. Edited July 3, 200917 yr by Habib
July 3, 200917 yr Maybe I'm in the minority here, but who cares what her reasoning was? She resigned, end of story.

July 3, 200917 yr Bizzare indeed. She doesn't want to be a lame duck governor? Did she tell the citizens that voted for her up front that she didn't plan to fulfill her term? She doesn't want to "milk the job and draw a paycheck" like so many others do? Here's a novel idea, then. Just continue to do your job like you did on day one. I'm tired of her "I'm so different, I'm so much better than other politicians" story. :ohbrother:
July 3, 200917 yr I just assumed that she was resigning to seek another higher office. Perhaps a state representative or senator.

July 3, 200917 yr Perhaps she has a soul mate down in Argentina. Seriously, I was always disappointed in the choice of Palin as running mate, and I echo some of the sentiments about her lack of substance upstairs. However, she is beautiful, electric, and a terrific success story, whom appeals to many people, particularly out West. She can probably make a whole lot of money on the appearance, speaking and fundraising circuit, and if I were her I'd take the money and run. I think her family concerns are in earnest. Incidentally, there have been a lot of blogs focused recently as to why on earth a person would subject themselves to the type of political pressure, scrutiny, and ruin that politicians subject themselves to. Do we not credit her for getting out along those lines?
