Lance Stephenson is currently on a visit to the University of Cincinnati, a program that up until this point has not been involved in his recruiting process.

“He got here yesterday [Friday],” said a player on the team. “We just got through playing open gym. [He played] with the whole team and a couple old players.

“He was doing good. I guarded him. He played good. We could use him. If we get him we’ll be good.”

Cincinnati returns a solid core including guards Deonta Vaughn and Rashad Bishop and forward Yancy Gates. Point guard Cashmere Wright also becomes eligible this year after sitting out last season with an injury. The Bearcats are bringing in big man Ibrahima Thomas and guards Sean Kilpatrick and Jaquon Parker. Kilpatrick is a White Plains, N.Y. native.

The 6-foot-5 Stephenson is the all-time leading scorer in New York State history and a McDonald’s All-American.

I hope they get him, I would love to see him get UC back on the national scene!

I say you take the good with the bad here. A place like cincy needs to take a risk like this right now to get them over the hump and step up a notch.

He obviously sounds like a good player but how much baggage comes with him?

Too much. :idunno:

Some seem to think he won't be elgible, no matter where he goes. There's got to be a reason why basically every school in the country has quit recruiting him.

GT, you will be in my prayers tonight.

While he certainly has his issues, I think this is a risk Mick has to take if he can land him. He has some history with incoming FR Seak Kilpatrick back in NY and is friends with Gates from their time on the camp and AAU circuit so he has at least a little level of comfort with his new teammates.

He's still a headcase, but at this point it looks like he will be my headcase for the next year... :D

If i'm UC, I would take the chance.

Personally I think your Bearcats are getting a top five player. If he can keep his attitude in check, and as long as his past doesn't become his future then he could lead them to some big things with Wright, Gates and company. Its a huge risk for a coach to take because it certainly seems like the NCAA's going to put everyone involved (University/Stephenson/etc. under a microscope once he signs. If he can play and play probation free then whatever school is getting a nice addition. Whether he'll be a nice team player will be a question, but whether he is a player is not. I feel UC is a good fit for him, they always tend to have that bad boy/bad guy image anyway.

Wow....reeks of desperation by Mick.

I agree. Let Mick keep the program rolling and gaining momentum. Its not like he needs this kid to save his job. There's a big reason he's still available which should send Mick running away as fast as possible.

Who is the English major that was quoted?

The kid can play but wouldnt this be a step back in getting UC away from the Huggs Thuggs image?
