June 10, 200917 yr As a recent Chihuahua owner, I can't imagine someone doing this to a dog as mine, I understand that some of them are relentless in their actions but for me to even consider them shooting it once is a stretch much less three times. That just makes me sick. Before I blamed the owners I'd like to know the whole story.

As a responsible owner, you don't let your dog in an environment where he is or can get outside. The dog had already bitten a jogger. What if it had been the next door neighbor's five year old's face? Again, NONE of this happens if the dog is properly secured.

I would think that two grown men wouldn't have to shoot the dog to subdue it. If I had heard that a dog had to be shot and killed because officers felt that was the justified means. Chihuahua wouldn't have been my 1st guess as to the breed of dog:lol:

My dad has one that he adores. Would we feel better if the police officer had hit the dog and it's neck being broken or it's skull shattered, trying to protect his partner (who had 17 bite marks, right)?

I hope the jogger and the officers hold the owners financially responsible for any medical bills.

Besides the headline is misleading. The dog was 20 pounds and half Jack Russell, which explains a little more. After 6 pounds, the breed Chihuahua isn't recognized.

After 6 pounds, the breed Chihuahua isn't recognized. I saw the story on the news the day it happened. The family while being interviewed showed a few pictures of "Killer". I can't see how that dog was anywhere close to being 20 lbs. I know "Eddie" on Frazier was a Jack Russell. That dog didn't seem that big either?? Just googled JR terrier. Weight 14-18 lbs. I would guess that a mix with a 5 lb. dog would produce something less than that. I really don't believe the officers claim of 20+ bites nor do I think that dog was anywhere near 20lbs. JMO. June 11, 200917 yr I agree with others in that one good swift kick would had put the little terrorist on the run. Spindocs analogy of using a dip net would also had worked sufficiently. Using a gun. wasting pefectly good ammunition is a little extreme :ohbrother:. I have family member that has a cihuahua and it will usually come at you barking and going crazy for the first minute or so that you are there. After that, he usually settles down and is fine. Cihuahua's are a very nervous dog by nature I believe(maybe it's the little man sndrome:idunno:). I laugh at this one in that he will come at you like a "killer" and as soon as you say as much as "boo", he turns around and runs away as fast as he ran at you, they are really "wimps". :lol:. Other than that, did the police or anyone call the dept. of homeland security and/or check to see if the little man was in this country legally ? All joking aside, I agree with TB&G in that if the dog was properly secured this never would have happened, it goes back on the owner.
