Police Shoot Chihuahua

Featured Replies

My dog goes outside, what is wrong with that?

Besides the headline is misleading.

The dog was 20 pounds and half Jack Russell, which explains a little more. After 6 pounds, the breed Chihuahua isn't recognized.

I could give you a whole list, including possible injuries to others AND your own pet, but to each his own. I've had outside dogs (live in a farming community), too, and I understand the desire to allow your pet freedom. The truth of the matter is that, as their owners, we are responsible for keeping out pet safe from harm AND keeping our pet from harming others. In this case, the owners were neglectful. This doesn't mean that I don't have sympathy for them.

Gotta love cops...

The headline is very misleading. The dog was NOT a little 5 lb. runt that we would associate with a chihuahua.

As others have said, it is the owners responsibility to contain their dog. They had to know that the dog would bite people, why was it out?

No matter how big the dog was, it bit a jogger, it was tased, shot twice, and was STILL biting the cops. It probably would have had to have been put down anyway.

Come on people, it's a little teeny, tiny dog for God's sake. While it should be monitored by it's owners, is there really a need for 3 rounds????? Grab it and hold it's neck and muzzle so it is incapable of biting....it's a whole lot smaller than a person, and even if it is being a menace, it's "people" loves it. I understand that if it bit a child that would be a totally different story, but in this case, it didn't, and I believe this could have been handled a little differently. Save the animal and put the responsibility where it belongs - on the owner.

I had a friend that I hunted with in Pennsylvania and his hunting dogs were chihuahuas. I laughed at first, but those dogs were vicious.

Shouldn't the game warden be called and fine the cops who did this? I mean there is a weight and size limit on these things isn't there?

You mean fine the cops after the owners are fined for negligance, right? I feel sorry for the little guy, but my anger is more directed toward the owners irresponsibility.

I was being sarcastic! I own 2 dogs and never in my right mind would I shoot or condone anyone shooting a chihuaha(or however you spell it). Why didn't they call the dog warden or SPCA and put one of those collars on a pole around its neck and haul it away until the owners worked things out?

Heck, they could have even used a butterfly net..
