Obviously there are many posters on here that have alot of good things to say about Shadon Brown. I too have heard good things. My only concern is his lack of head coaching experience. This doesn't mean I don't think he can do the job, but I do think it will be alot harder on him, or any young inexperienced coach, walking in to the head job of the Mercer County Titans. 1 or 2 years of experience doesn't deem a coach 'seasoned' IMO. And I think they need a much experienced, 'seasoned' coach. But, that also doesn't mean they won't do a great job. Other than having to be an excellent football coach, the next guy is going to have to build back some bridges, build trust among staff and other coaches and learn to play nice with others.

 

I will say I've heard folks in the community talk about Buchanan and how the fact that he won't leave his Mason Co. team this late says alot about him. Sources say he did decline the job since it is so late in the summer and people talk about how this shows what a class act Buchanan is and how he cares about his players.

Wow such a true statement seen this happen. Whether we will admit it or not, for most, if not all folks winning does mean everything.

As has been said before, it is going to be hard to get an experienced proven coach at this late date, I think Shadon has a good foundation and back ground. He has been associated with the some good coaches and programs and this may be the opportunity he needs to prove himself. I know Mercer County is interested, its just up to the school officials now. I hope everything works out well for all involved. It would be good for our area to have a continued solid program at Mercer.

Cleavenger has shown alot of improvement at Henderson. His 1st year they were 2-9 and last year they were 7-4. Henderson is one of the biggest schools in the state and they have outstanding facilities and great community support. Some people think its the best job in wky.

Rumor has Clevinger interested in the job. In my opinion he is a far more proven coach than Brown.

I asked someone from Harrodsburg the other day when they thought Mercer was going to build a new stadium over by the new school and he said it wouldn't happen in his lifetime . They ran out of money building the new school.The girls softball field would be the only thing over there for several years.I wonder if any of the coaches interviewed asked why the band director was given 10 more extended days pay than the head b-ball coaches or the football coach.

Having coached with both Clay Clevenger and Shadon Brown, either would be a great hire. Both are bright, energetic, and very well disciplined. Good football minds in both cases.

I don't know all of that info.I know that Brown is in his 20's and went 4-7 last year at Rowan. Cleavenger is in his early 30's and is 9-11 in his 2 years as head coach at Henderson.The coach at Madisonville is in his 30's and is 12-9 in his 2 years as a Head coach and Mason is in his mid 30's and was 6-5,6-5,7-5 his 1st 3 years as a head coach biut went 0-10 his last year at Nelson and was let go by Nelson County.I don't know anything about the other applicant.Mason does have 1 State Title as the defensive coordinator for the Titans.

Dave Thomas is about 42 years old and has had around 5 or so years head coaching experience in South Carolina and Tennessee. While in Tenn he was an assisstant coach at Riverdale in Murphesborro Tenn. His team went to the Finals like 3 or 4 years in a row. They won at least one. He has two sons one was Mr. Football and the other was runner up. He moved to KY 2 years ago becasue of family. Great Guy. Great Coach. Would do a great job at Mercer. He knows how to run a successful program.

Those are statistical analysis but at least with Clevenger there is a reason his record was only 9-11 over two years. I think he was 2-9 his first season and considering the mess that Henderson was in emotionally, no one would have done any better. You can almost call that season a wash.

I was impressed with Clevenger when he was at Lincoln County.
