What about the Board of Education at Mercer for waiting 6 months to make a hire at Superintendent, puting Jaggers and the kids in limbo, waiting to know whether or not he could retire from teaching, yet still coach?

 

What about Terry Yates, the principal, for not letting Jaggers do what so many other coaches across the state have been able to do here lately (retire from teaching, but coach)?

 

What about Yates and the hiring committe for not hiring the obvious and best choice in the first place, Bill Mason? Jaggers Defensive Coordinator/'Right Hand Man' the past three years with, whom the kids, from everything I've heard, have a great respect for.

 

The fault here lies with certain members at the top of the mountain.

 

Don't see where the board of education put Jaggers and the kids in limbo. So now we're gonna blame the board? So far it is the board and principal's fault Marty isn't back coaching? Hhmm... last I checked Marty 'chose' to retire since he was not allowed to just coach. Yes, that was a decision made by the principal, but if Jaggers wanted to coach so badly, then he could have 'chosen' to stay on and teach/coach. Maybe Marty needs to look at some other schools that allow only coaching and no teaching. Like you said, other schools do allow that so why doesn't he look into that?

 

And I've heard so many different stories I don't know if I'm coming or going, but I have heard from too many people in the school system who know Mason that he and Marty didn't go together like peanut butter and jelly. They may have worked together as coaches, but I've not heard one person - other than you Holmes - talk about Mason as Marty's right hand man and how tight they are. Just don't get that vibe from some of the insiders.

 

But I do agree with you on 2 points - 1) I have heard the kids have the utmost respect for Coach Mason and 2) fault lies at the top of the mountain.

 

And again, the players are the ones suffering from this fiasco!

1) What type of spring practice has Mercer utilized the last two years while they were a 5 A program.

 

2) Does anyone know how many times Jaggers graced the doors of the weightroom this last spring?

 

3) Did Jaggers embrace the school and community as they head football coach?

 

4) Was his personal behavior considered being a role model, or someone you would want your son to be like?

The board and the new super needs to step in before Yates messes this hire up. How they can let this happen is beyond comprehension.

"Why blame Jaggers for this fiasco? He couldn't do anything until they hired a super. As soon as that was done he talked to both and wanted to do what many coaches do and the super agreed and the principal shot that plan down. Now you want to blame him? I think all know where the blame should be placed!"

 

Clearly, everyone in town knew that there was a problem with Yates and Jaggers. Waiting on the super is really just trying to do an end run around the prinicpal. It's really not surprising that it didn't work out like Jaggers hoped.

Your exactly right! This program will never be righted until he is gone. It doesn't help matters that they have a wishy washy AD, either.

IMO Brown will do a great job at Mercer if he's the guy. He's learned from some great programs and he's from the aera. He just might be the right person to come in and put some excitement back in the program.

Excuse me for not being sold on the Brown hire, as I have stated earlier it says alot about a person to do what he is going to do to Rowan Co. You can say he is from the area, he is this and he is that. But Rowan Co. gave him his first head coaching job and he is going to return the favor by leaving during the dead period. It just isn't right, no job is worth doing that to school districts or kids.

 

During the dead period can an administration call the team together to let a coach tell them he is leaving? I would think not but just curious how Brown plans on handling that.

#2 Todd Davis teaches weights in the classroom but if you call talking on the phone and playing on the computer all day teaching.

#1 As far as spring practice he never actually did it the whole time he was there. I can name several good programs that do the same thing he did in the spring.

Weaver didn't want to take his chances with all that talent.#3 He lives in Harrodsburg and he goes to church there what does he need to do that he didn't do. I know alot of coaches that don't even live in the community they coach. Right on the money about Todd Davis. From chilhood until now, lazy has been his middle name. This is why he fits in so well with Terry Yates. A good AD would not have let this crap happen.

The reason I say this is because of the article that was written in the Danville Advocate, yesterday. I didn't know nor did I care as to what his skin color was until I read the article.

OOPS........ You would have thought that he would have covered all his bases ....visit the area....talk to the kids...talk to the administration...check out the housing situation....etc.etc.etc. before he accepted the job. This just doesn't seem like a fair thing to do...on the other hand...it's better that he tells them no now than to wait and get everything started and then back out sometime in the future.
