FWIW, I won't say it's impossible, but I don't think Meeks will be a first round pick this year or next. I'm wondering if he doesn't know or suspect that already, so he's thinking he may as well go now.

2. Which helps his draft stock more, a potentially improved Meeks in a stronger, deeper draft class, or the current guy in a weak class?

It's obvious he wants to stay in the draft. There's no reason he wouldn't have ended this by now otherwise.

I think for Jodie it comes down to improving his game more than his stock. Everyone can agree that the draft next year is loaded more than this years. If Jodie comes back and works on some things, he may not improve his draft pick number, but it would be best for him in the long run IMO.

I don't think he will go in the first round. Maybe late in the second. But if he thinks next year's class will be even stronger than this one he may decide to stay in and take his chances. Pretty risky though IMO.

Jodie needs to look in the mirror and realize that there is a chance to win a championship in his basketball career. Right now thats in college. To me your younger years has a lot to do about making memories for your older years. The stories one tells his children and grand children. I can hear him now...I played five years in the NBA even made it to the playoffs once. In 2009 my senior year as a Wildcat we won it all ! Now that's what its all about....CHAMPION !

You can't get blood from a turnip. Jodie Meeks is no Ben Gordon, nor does he have that kind of potential.

People get crazy during these draft things. Meeks has some real flaws (by NBA standards) that prevent him from being a first rounder, IMO.

 

His athleticism is average. He's a streaky shooter. His ball-handling isn't that great and I question his ability to create his own shot at the next level.

 

That's not the scouting report for a first round pick. And, I'm not sure how much that will change in a year.

 

So, the question becomes...go now in a weaker draft class or try to improve and go against a deeper class?

 

I think he should go now. As a UK fan, I'd like to see him back, but I'm OK with it either way. I'm content with what we'll have either way.

Meeks to me would not be able to create shots as well as he needs to to be a good scorer in the NBA. Jab steps, fade-aways, pump fakes, etc. just aren't up his sleeve quite yet. That's the biggest issue I see. And his ball handling is extremely suspect.
