CentreRocks Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Go ahead and post your nominee's stats from 2000 on and we'll add a poll. We ought to do one for each class. Trinity Shamrocks 6A 116-15 for an 89% winning percentage; 8 state appearances; 7 state titles, a 3 peat and a 4 peat; 3 times nationally ranked in final USAToday poll: 2002, 2007 and 2008.
All Tell Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I know I'm very biased but this one's no contest IMVHO. One stat you omitted. Playoff Record since 2000: 40-2 95%
CentreRocks Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 I know I'm very biased but this one's no contest IMVHO. One stat you omitted. Playoff Record since 2000: 40-2 95% I'm anxious to see how the lower classes break out, e.g. Boyle's 4 titles to start the decade.
Hatz Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I'm anxious to see how the lower classes break out, e.g. Boyle's 4 titles to start the decade. It's hard to discern isn't it when the Classes have changed since the start of the decade. Is Boyle listed as AA or AAA or AAAA? Is Highlands AAA or AAAAA? Do we gauge them on current classification and what they did regardless of which class they were in before now? If that is the criteria (the above statement) then I would nominate Boyle as the best of the Current 4A teams. I believe they are 107-20 on the decade which is an 84% win percentage. (13 of those losses occurred in 2 years) Five consecutive Finals appearances and Four Consecutive Titles (2000 to 2004). Three undefeated seasons. (15-0) :thumb:

DragonFire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Do we gauge them on current classification and what they did regardless of which class they were in before now? I'd say slot them in current classifications, but achievements from the 4 class system carries more weight. For instance, Boyle County's accomplishments under 4 classes should rank higher than say, Louisville Central's titles after the realignment.

Do not think anyone can argue with you. By far IMO the best program in the state.
katbird Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I'll take Highlands.. They play up two classes and keep winning state titles. :ylsuper:
JIM SEYMOUR # 85 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Nice Poll. Good idea. Allow us to start thinking "football" again. I, too, would very much like to see the nominees from the other classes.
DragonFire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 By the way, technically, there is still one more year in the football decade.... Let's do another easy one. 5A Fort Thomas Highlands: 4 State Championships, 1 Runner-Up. 92-34 (.730) record overall*, 27-9 (.750) playoff record** -Highlands either won the championship or was eliminated by the champion in all but two years (2001 & 2002) * - Adjusted record reflects 12 losses by forfeit. Actual results place record at 104-22 (.825). No other 5A school has more than one title in this timespan. ** - Adjusted record reflects 4 losses by forfeit. Actual results place record at 33-5 (.868)
sportsfan41 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I'll take Highlands.. They play up two classes and keep winning state titles. :ylsuper: Well now you've gone and done it, we all know Trinity would play up two classes if they could.
DragonFire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 4A teams may be yet another easy one, even though most of this dominance took place at the beginning of the decade: 4A Boyle County: 4 State Championships, 1 Runner-Up. 106-20 (.841) record overall, 31-5 (.861) playoff record -4 consecutive state titles -5 consecutive finals appearances -6 state semifinals apperances -Majority of dominance came with less classes against better competition No other 4A school has more than two titles in this timespan
DragonFire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 3A is where the water starts getting murky, especially since the majority of the class is comprised of mostly old 2A schools, which saw no team that really set themselves apart, and the larger old 3A schools played in a class completely dominated by Boyle County and Highlands. 3A Belfry: 2 State Championships, 1 Runner-Up. 101-24 (.808) record overall, 28-7 (.800) playoff record -2 consecutive state titles -6 consecutive state semifinals appearances -Both state titles and 4 of the semifinals appearances came with less classes Only other school with as many titles is Louisville Central, both of which came in extremely watered down class system. Louisville Central also has over 30 less wins.
DragonFire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Of the schools currently in 2A, only 5 have state titles, and Danville, Fort Campbell, and Nwport Central Catholic have the most. Danville and Newport Central Catholic are especially strong candidates, each with multiple titles and runner-up appearances. 2A Danville: 3 State Championships, 2 Runners-Up. 103-22 (.824) record overall, 30-6 (.833) playoff record -2 consecutive state titles -Finals appearances 4 out of 5 years (2000-2004) -5 consecutive state semifinals appearances and 6 overall Newport Central Catholic: 2 State Championships, 4 Runners-Up. 105-24 (.814) record overall, 32-7 (.821) playoff record -2 consecutive state titles -4 consecutive finals appearances (2005-2008) -Made state quarterfinals every single season Ultimately I believe Danville just nudges out NewCath, but a legitimate argument can be made for both.
DragonFire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Because Danville and Newport Central Catholic play in 2A, 1A becomes particularly easy. Those two schools won 5 of the 7 titles in the class while they were there, leaving only two other schools that won titles this decade, and Mayfield won only one. 1A Beechwood: 3 State Championships, 2 Runners-Up. 103-21 (.831) record overall, 28-6 (.824) playoff record -2 consecutive state titles -3 consecutive finals appearances (2002-2004) Along with Louisville Central, Beechwood benefited the most from realignment, winning two of its three titles afterward and having perennial thorn NewCath shipped up a class.
