Team of the Decade

Featured Replies

Here is another chart of the same 20 teams I listed earlier, but it includes the playoff records and win% over the 9 year span 2000-2008.

This chart is sorted by playoff win %

In the playoff columns, I counted the total playoff wins/losses earned on the field for HHS and LexCath because they were allowed to move on in competition and even though officially a forfeit may show up in a year, the team moved on in competition.

Can anyone track down most wins ever over a 10 year period? I would guess that Trinity's total under the Beatty tenure would be close to the top, if not the top.

Didn't Beechwood go to State 7 out of 8 years in the 90s? They may be close if the 15 game season had begun.

**I just saw where Beechwood won 126 games in the 90s.

The 15 game season began in 1991.

True. This will probably start a firestorm from the Trinity folks (and as great fans I wouldn't be surprised) and I'm obviously biased in favor of Highlands, but when I compare Trinity's accomplishments as one of the largest schools in its classification to what Highlands has done while playing up and playing out of state schools much larger than it, even though Trinity's record is better, I think Highlands accomplishments are more impressive. I know there is nothing Trinity can do about playing larger Ky schools (there aren't many) and the fact they have to beat another exceptional program to win their championships (Lou. X) is extremely impressive, but the lack of games against national powerhouses or against out of state schools much larger than Trinity somewhat lessens Trinity's accomplishments in my eyes. I fully realize the cost and expense of playing those games, so no need to point that out to me. If Trinity was playing and beating schools from Texas, Georgia, California and Ohio (on a more regular basis as to Ohio) I might not feel Highlands accomplishments were more impressive. But Trinity hasn't done that (yet?).

And Rock fans, please, please do not twist my post into something portraying a lack of respect for Trinity. I am one of the Rocks biggest admirers and supporters specifically and private schools generally. Trinity has a first class program with kids, coaches and fans everyone should commend.

Don't get your boxers in a bunch Rock fans. It's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.:D

I can absolutely buy this argument, and can see its credibility...that said, I feel we have won multiple titles, this decade, where we weren't the favorite and that would give us the edge. Highlands tends to win the title most often when they are the favorite.

I assume the years we weren't the favorite would be:

2001, 2005, 2007?

I would have added 2006 and 2008 but in both years the team that was he favorite lost to Trinity before the title game.

The correct answer is TRINITY.

Throw out all votes from Trinity and Highlands homers (me included) and the clear winner is Trinity. Those on the outside looking in would pick the ROCKS by a wide margin.

Highlands is playing right where they want to be, unless perhaps they would want to be playing 6A? HHS doesn't get any "extra credit" because they are playing up or because they get beat by big Ohio schools they choose to play. The fact is HHS has won 3 fewer state titles this decade in the class they want to play in. Look at their record and compare it to Trinity's. Include the forfeits as wins, and HHS still is not there. I am surprised there is this much debate on this thread because to me it is a no brainer that Trinity is the team of the decade.

The only debate is from Highlands homers. They have tunnel vision. You can't fault them for that.

I think that Trinity is obviously the Team of the Decade. If Boyle County had not lost Coach Smith to UK and the Rebels had continued the level of success that they experienced in the early 2000's, then we would be discussing whether the Team of the Decade is Trinity or Boyle County, but alas they did not, and I just don't see another legitimate contender for this distinction.

Heck, I don't even think it's a close call.

Now, if you put qualifiers on the debate, such as "best program" (ie taking into consideration what a program is able to get out of its players, given its size/community, etc), then programs like Beechwood and Highlands enter into the discussion. However...

Team of the Decade = Louisville Trinity
