I went to the game last night and Phillips really let me down. I won't even argue him being in the 4 spot (right now) as I was disgusted with something else. His lack of hustle. I take my little league team over to see last nights game and I see a man hitting .150 something and loafing to 1st atleast twice during the game. I'm sorry, but if your hitting in the .150 range and Dusty is still giving the respect of you being clean-up you best bust your tail down the line and do whatever you can to help your team.

You say you're confident that Rosales can match Edwin's production (although he's shown nothing to support that opinion at the major league level.), but scoff at the notion that Janish could match Gonzo's production when he has had a hot start to the season at the major league level. Who's to say he couldn't keep it up for a good portion of the season?

Janish has had a whopping 14 at-bats in three weeks ... the term "hot start" is pretty generous.

 

On the other hand, Rosales is mashing at Triple-A, which I feel gives a little leverage to an argument advocating his promotion. He could also figure in the outfield picture.

 

For the record, I still think Encarnacion is the Reds' best choice. A hot streak from him will quiet down everything.

Rosales is simply a better hitter, a much better hitter, than Janish. They've played about the same amount of time in Louisville in their careers ... Rosales' OBP is about .850 there, about 200 points higher than Janish's numbers.

It's unlikely, especially due the success in his last start, but I wouldn't mind seeing Owings get some time in LF in the future. He's fairly athletic & obviously has a good arm.

 

Like I said, it is unlikely. But this team is begging for offense in some way, shape or form.

E-5 is only marginally better than Brandon Larsen. He needs to be demoted, dealt, whatever. I've said it for 2 years now.

 

Defensively it's his right hand that's the issue, not his left hand. Any replacement at 3rd within reason will be a wash defensively if not an upgrade.

 

Offensively, we have this discussion each and every year and westsider is right, the discussion will quell when he gets a hot stretch and he'll end up with mediocre numbers, and there will be those who will argue that he's still young. Where's my horse?:deadhorse:

Here's my problem with this whole slow start thing. The Reds have gotten pretty darn good pitching so far and and have lost some games that could of easily been won with just a little more production from their 4, 5, and 6 hitters. The problem is, the Reds are playing in a very competitive division and really can't wait for these guys to get hot in june, and july. If they don't start hitting soon, they will be out of the race before june.

I'm not sure what to think about that lineup.

 

I don't mind McDonald in the 7-hole. Provides some speed at the bottom of the order.

 

If Taveras can get on base, it'll neutralize Hairston's inability to hit. Surely he'll be able to move the runner, right?
