Therein lies the problem. I'm not necessarily sure Rosales is the answer. Something's gotta be done to light a fire under E5. While it wouldn't hurt to see if Rosales can duplicate his AAA heat, we are talking about a guy who's going to be 26 in three weeks.

 

If anything, I'm questioning Dusty's ability to motivate, when you consider poor hitting is a team-wide problem (Votto excepted).

You're the only one that seems to be coming up with the excuses, and very lame ones at that. There was no excuse for Phillips dogging it on Sunday when he ended up with just a single on a ball that hit the wall. The difference between Phillips and Encarnacion is that the Reds have someone that they can replace Encarnacion with that I feel very strongly can do a better job than Encarnacion is doing right now. Do you have a replacement for Phillips? This has nothing to do with a like or dislike of E-5. Go back and read my post in the Reds threads from the past couple of years. I've always been a supporter of Encarnacion, but his lack of production, and his laziness this year, and Rosales hot bat are more than enough reasons to give Rosales a chance.

It doesn't look like anything is going to change for the time being.

Actually since they've been outscored 84-72 on the season the Reds are very lucky to be 10-9. The offense has got to get going or it won't last long.

 

They have been very lucky and usually run differential directly relates to wins, but they aren't going to win a whole lot of laughers. They could easily be 13-6 or 6-13. When people quit letting Votto beat them their record will go south. Why wouuld you pitch to him w/ guys on base?

He has also shown signs in the past couple of weeks of starting to hit the ball. He is also a gold glove winner, and always plays hard. Encarnacion has shown no signs of improvement, and to make matters worse, has been extremely lazy, and refused to hustle many, many times since the season started, and has proved that he can be a defensive liability. If he has no motivation to improve, or hustle, then ship him out until he shows signs that he is motivated to play and perform at the major league level.

Nobody is denying the fact that Edwin is struggling & needs a fire lit under his behind. I absolutely cannot stand the lack of hustle & lackadaisacal play.

For this club to compete, we need Edwin to start producing. As down on him as I am, I realize that he's still an integral part of this lineup. To send him down to AAA just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, particularly since we'd bring up another unproven guy.

 

Janish has looked solid so far this season. Let's give him a few AB's at 3rd & see what happens. I don't expect much, but it may be enough to light a fire under Edwin's behind & make him start producing. That alone would be worth it.

 

I don't see the reasoning in bringing up Rosales to platoon him somewhere. If Dusty & Co. think he can be the everyday 3rd Baseman (or SS, LF, 2B), then by all means, bring him up. I'm all for giving young guys a chance, especially when they're stroking the ball like Rosales is.

I wouldn't Rosales to be brought up to platoon. I would want him to be the everyday 3rd basemen. I think Rosales would hit for a better average, and hit for more power. I would give Janish the edge in defense.

I seem to remember getting thrashed when I suggested that the Reds should trade Brandon Phillips last year.

 

I still think it would've been a good idea. And I'm a Phillips fan.
