April 8, 200917 yr I'm not a big fan of second guessing coaching decisions, but was it really necessary for Harang to throw that many pitches in day 1 of the season in that weather? I find myself sticking up for people like BCG, but second guessing Baker a ton. Either I have no clue when it comes to baseball or Baker just flat out thinks pitchers arms can go through a lot more than I do.

He'll have to do much better than that when it starts to heat up and the ball starts flying out of GABP. I think at this point he's much more likely to become a .500 pitcher than to improve or even reach his 2007 level. From five innings? Really? Wow.

Think what you want but I maintain that it is very unlikely that Harang returns to his form of 2006-07. He probably won't be as bad as 2008 either but he's much more likely to settle somewhere in the middle. That would be around 12 wins, 8-10 losses and a 4.00+ ERA.

It's not what he did for the 2 years before last year but still decent. I happen to think if he hits those numbers he'll have the 3rd best numbers of the starters.

So if they get 17 wins from Volquez, 15 wins from Cueto, and 13 wins from Harang they may get to 86. That would be 45 from those 3. I'd say Arroyo goes for at least 11 and the 5th could combine for 8. None of those numbers are crazily high and that gives you 74 from the starters. Now if any of them are injured and you need to count on Owings/Bailey it could go lower. If they get 74 from the starters they will win at least 86 games or so IMO.
April 8, 200917 yr Take away the stretch of eight starts after Dusty's extra-inning folly in San Diego last year, when Harang was clearly less than 100 percent, and his numbers are pretty decent: 140 IP 142 H 5-13 record and 3.99 ERA 35 BB 117 SO That level of performance is clearly acceptable in GABP. It's pretty much in line with what Harang did in 2005-07.
