April 7, 200917 yr A couple of the guys on base wouldn't have even gotten there if our outfielders, specifically McDonald takes charge on a couple bloop singles and makes a play. Just my opinion from being at the game.
April 7, 200917 yr Harang pitched well yesterday. The guy was 6-17 last season and we lost 2-1 to a dangerous lineup, not a bad start at all.

All in all, a fairly encouraging start to the season. The Mets are one of the better teams in the NL, and Santana is one of the top pitchers in the big leagues. I just wish that Dickerson would've started over McDonald. I realize Dusty didn't want the lefty Dickerson going against the lefty Santana, but I think Dickerson is that much better to where you HAVE to have him in the lineup over Darnell McDonald.

Allowing 2 baserunners per inning and averaging 23 pitches an inning is a recipie for another 6-17 season. Besides that it will destroy the bullpen. If not for a runner thrown out at the plate and a 2 out laser caught by Phillips he would have given up at least 2 more runs and not made it through five. He may indeed be getting close to a return to form but yesterday's start was only okay.

April 7, 200917 yr Too darned many pitches for Harang, but I'm liking the new, less-fat Harang. Today's outing was encouraging. I agree 100% he really trimmed down! I was worried about him in spring training but he took it too a good lineup yesterday! I said it last year and I'll say it again...there is NO excuse for the mental lapse that these major leaguers have when it comes to fundamentals! Getting doubled of 1st is ridiculous! Being in the outfield and not calling off your infielder (or infielder not getting out of the way when he is called off) is rediculous! That costs you games and it did again yesterday! That really irks me!

April 8, 200917 yr You are comparing two completely different style pitchers. They're both fastball, slider, change up pitchers. Harang throws 90, Santana throws 94. They both have to have good touch on their sliders and changes--weather was the same for both.

So what was it, two totally different types of pitchers that caused it or facing two totally different offenses? :idunno: I hope he is back to he 2007 form but I don't think he was anything special on opening day. He'll have to do much better than that when it starts to heat up and the ball starts flying out of GABP. I think at this point he's much more likely to become a .500 pitcher than to improve or even reach his 2007 level.
