I have no problem Dusty using Owings as a pinch hitter in any situation. The guy can hit.

Santana is at 86 pitches right now. If the Reds can get him up over 100 or so, they could have 3 innings to try and score on the Mets bullpen.

It is game 1 and the starting CF is sick. There is some depth there... Couple that with the fact that Owings is a pretty good hitter. Give it some time. Are we nay saying already?

No, not at all. Big Reds fan (though I think they are again looking at a sub .500 season). But have come to increasingly distrust Dusty over time.

Because it was still fairly early in the game, and Owings has the power to tie the game in one swing. The guy has proven himself as a major league-caliber hitter.

 

Who else are you going to hit in that situation? Dickerson's a lefty and is likely to be used later. We know Janish doesn't hit much, Hanigan and Rosales are unproven and Taveras is sick, right? Who else is there?

I think DB is saving his better pitch hitters for the late innnings.
