The runs allowed was encouraging but with 10 baserunners allowed in 5 innings was it that good of an outing? Only 2 Ks and a WHIP of 2.00 could be a recipie for disaster in warmer weather.

I may have predicted Bailey to make the rotation over Owings, I honestly don't remember, but there was never any doubt in mind that Owings would either be the 5th man, or pitch out of the bullpen.

I said I thought Bailey would get the nod of the trio of Masset, Owings and Bailey for the 5th spot if they all continued to pitch well. I also said I thought Bray was a lock. I also thought Gomes was a lock for the team. A lot of things changed, and baring an injury, or just Owings being a total bust, I don't see him being sent out, epecially with him giving the Reds an extra bat off the bench.

No, but they will probably make a lot of pitchers look like Cy Young winners. :lol: I'm still very optimistic about the direction the Reds franchise is going. They may still be a couple of years away, but I believe the future looks very promising.

Rhodes is more of a late inning guy. Herrera was lights out during the spring.

In a tight game against one of the best pitchers in baseball who was throwing no no stuff for 4 innings? Herrera could barely throw a strike and was throwing in the 70's. Gave up the go ahead run.... Rhodes comes in and throws all strikes. Give the Mets a lead with Putz and K-Rod in the pen and your not gonna beat them often.

Not a bad game today. Observations: Putz plus K-Rod is going to be really tough (DUH I know), so I don't see the Mets blowing many late inning leads this year.

 

The Reds offense was missing a big piece with Taveras out, not to mention he may have made one of those plays out in center where the ball dropped.

 

I'm encouraged by opening day, hopefully Volquez brings his A game Wednesday night to get the series even.

Dusty only let him go 114 pitches on opening day. I guess he plans on bringing him back on Wednesday.
