Beechwood is going to be very small next year in terms of length and size. But they are going to be young and some of the upcoming sophomores will probably see a lot of playing time like Staten. They are going to be fast on defense but I dont know who will be their starting line. Adams? Maricle? Genal? Jackson?

 

If they can get a little deeper on the line I think they will be on track for another title run. I think they will be OK at all the other positions.

Others have mentioned many of my thoughts. Beechwood will be good in 2009 but I believe the 2009 Tigers will be one of the weaker Beechwood teams of the last two decades. However, even a weaker Beechwood team in watered down 1A is a threat to win a title.

 

I will close with this, if Beechwood is able to win it all in 2009 there is no end in sight to the consecutive titles they will win.

You could always petition the KHSAA ..... I am sure that would make class A even better. It is already weak as it is.

IMO they should move up to at least 2A. Would still have local district with NCC, Holy Cross, etc. And would actually be challenged more in district play. Then when they win the 2A State it at least means something. If Cov Cath can play up 1 and Highlands 2 classes, Beechwood with their history and program can play up 1 class.

Just to clarify, as quicksilver posted, KHSAA rules do not allow Beechwood to move up, even if they wanted to. Also, Beechwood isn't even close to moving up based on enrollment. They are in the middle of the pack in 1A in enrollment.

I guess because it is "Beechwood" .. people are under the impression that they can make up the rules as they go (which is "interesting to say the least). Why people think that Beechwood can just pull the trigger on moving up or down whenever they feel like it ... amazes me completely. Havent all those 7 wins come in this decade once NCC became a consistent title contender? So yeah little reason to be scared, cause wouldn't be a cake walk there to the state title game, because would have to get through NCC and NCC seems to have their number lately.

New Cath was a consistent title contender in the 90's when I played. They just couldn't beat us. But they had some dang good teams. Some of those years if we hadn't won it they would have.

Highlands and Cov Cath were allowed to move up from 3A and 4A respectively, due to the lack of 3A and 4A teams within what they believe to be a reasonable traveling distance. They both moved up to 5A, which Northern Kentucky, and the surronding area, has more of, thusly cut down yearly transportation costs and time.

 

The KHSAA does not allow schools to move up in class only due to the level of competition, it must be due to location and travel distance. It would be almost impossible for Beechwood to move out of 1A, even if they wanted to, because Northern Kentucky has a good number of 1A teams.

Glad to help, I let it go for a day or two, just to hear the argument.

Believe me, the Tigers would prefer NOT to have a cake walk, and are certainly not afraid of NCC or any team for that matter. The NCC/Beechwood games were the best games of the season.

 

 

Many of us miss that excitement.

 

 

But, back to the thread. Yes, we will have a young team this year, but the young are very talented. Coach Rash will have those boys ready to step up.:thumb:
