I can't stand Dickie. I will never listen to him again.

I respect Duke. My wife hates them; it is all about the shot and that missed chance at a title.

A couple of my favorite all-time players played at Duke, so no, not at all. I'm not a fan, but no where close to hate them.

I respect, but dislike Duke. I actually liked them until 3 instances changed my mind.

 

1. Coach K complaining about having to play in Lexington (whereas they normally played in their homestate every year in the NCAA tourney), cannot remember the year

2. The 'stomp'

3. The 'shot'

 

However, that being said, I respect the tradition at Duke and recognize that Coach K is one of the best collegiate coaches in history. Love him or hate him, he is a great coach. I really had a great deal of respect for him after the 'shot' when he went over to Cawood and made those very classy comments. Still, the greatest game I have ever seen at the college level.

 

The story on Nolan Smith was very touching and shows the other side that we all too often don't see.

These 3, and that they seem to play by a different set of rules according to officials on National Television, brings about a state of extreme dislike, not quite hate. That is reserved for Pitino!

Hate 'em. I'm a UNC fan, well I thought I was unitl RP told me different. Anyhoo, put me in the hate category.

Hate them with a passion. 1992 Regional Final need I say more?

This Guy hates Duke for too many reasons to list.

Even though I don't pull for Duke that often. I would love to go to a game at Duke. The best home court advantage in the Nation. Rowdy fan section.

My disdain for anything that wears Orange, prevents me from having any emotional time for Duke. One way or the other.

I still think those that say, "It's not Laettner's shot, it's the stomp" are being disingenuous, and trying to hide their pettiness over the fact they can't let the loss go. Had that shot not gone in, no one would even remember Timerlake's name.

 

For the record, I don't like Duke. But it's not an all-encompassing, all-consuming hatred like most on this board harbor.

While I would say I agree with your statement, consider this:

 

On the new HBO Doc Battle for Tobacco Road, Christian Laettner says, "I enjoy that everyone from the other side hates me. If they don't, I'm not doing my job." Or words to that effect. He relished in the bad guy role and even used the word "hate" as a hope that other opponents and/or fans had for him.

 

I said in my post that I don't disagree with not liking a certain coach, player, etc.. I agree with you on the Laettner thing.

I'm a UNC fan but I respect what they have done over the years. However, I can not stand Coach K, to the point I didn't root for team USA in 2008. :lol: That part was a joke of course but still, he just kills me. He is a Hall of Famer and is one of the best all time but I can not stand to look at him on the sidelines.

Lattener's shot didn't make me despise Duke, it was his kicking of Timberlake that the refs chose to ignore that got me. Had that been any other team besides Duke, he gets tossed that night....

I tease you all the time about this but I really don't hate Duke. I saw the story they did on Nolan Smith (Sunday ESPN). Made me pull for Duke just a little more. I think Coach K is a great coach. I always wonder what he is like as a person. That would change my opinion one way or the other. As you well know my opinion...you can be the greatest coach in the world (winning) but if you are not a good person you are nothing as far as I am concerned.
