Just goes to show that you have to have some good luck and avoid some bad luck to even GET to the Sweet 16 in many cases. Many were touting Scott County as having the talent of a small college team this year, and maybe so. However, the injury to Phares couldn't have come at a worse time (with no time to adjust).

 

Sometimes you have to be lucky AND good.

Did Beckham come through Catholic's "system"?

 

I don't remember where exactly he came from but I thought I'd heard that he and a brother came to Lex Cath and his brother is a year older so he sat out this season. Since Beckham is a freshman who didn't play high school ball he was allowed to play. Maybe I am confusing this but I thought I'd heard that early in the year.

 

Lex Cath I believe only lets players from their main feeder schools, such as Mary Queen, Christ the King, St. Leo, Saint Peter and Paul, etc. actually play on their middle school teams thus, if you attend a public school for middle school, you can't play for them at the middle school. That had become the rule while I was in middle school so that Lex Cath could appease public schools in the area. (If this has changed or is entirely wrong someone tell me, but as of my 7th/8th grade years I recall them not allowing a kid whose family belonged to Mary Queen as a parishoner but who attended a public middle school play middle school ball). In case anyone wondered, this was more just pointless blather then anything else. Probably more then anyone cared to read.

I think you are right about Jayeln Beckham and his brother. I know Jayeln played Middle School at Bryan Station.

 

This is what makes KY HS basketball one of the best in the nation. Never know what is going to happen.

 

For us adults, it's easy to get caught up in this, and take it too seriously at times. Remember, these are young teenage kids, most of whom will never play college ball or make a penny in the sport. They should be learning about hard work, discipline, life while playing ball. Those things will stay with them all their lives when basketball is over. I think a lot of the "trouble kids" on a team, are really that way because of the pressure their parents put on them to perform. I have told my kids to work hard, prepare, do your best, and enjoy the journey. If your esteem is based on what 16 and 17 year olds do or don't do, you have got a problem. Let the kids have fun. And us adults need to lead them by example.

Certainly isn't the first time Hicks has put a loss on the stripes.

 

I agree. In his opinion it's always the refs that cause his team to lose.

Phares is a very good player, but they still have three D-1 type players in the starting 5. How many teams in the state can say they have this much talent on the court. Congrats to Lex. Cath and the coaching staff.

By the way.... One of the Scott County players parents took the 2nd place trophy and sit it next to the ref's changing room? What's THAT all about? I'm thinking that if you learn how to handle the press and not turn it over and over and over than you have the OTHER trophy.

You really didn't think they (the Scott Co. people) would blame the 2nd Place finish on anyone else, did you??? It's ALWAYS the officials fault when they get beat. It has NOTHING to do with the way they happened to play that particular night!

I don't know where you got your info I was on the floor by the ref's dreesing room several times and there was not a 2nd place trophy left there. And by the way I would think the policeman standing there would not let that happen.

I know for a FACT that as the ref's were walking out a father brought the trophy and sit it at the feet of the ref's. That is FACT.... not fiction. You just must have not been there at the right time because it happened. My info is dead on. Obviously you weren't there at the right time. Sorry man.... Can't deny what REALLY happens! The policeman wasn't there at that particular time.

WOW thats funny since the asst. coach took the trophy to thelocker room when they went and it was sitting in the floor when I took stats to the locker room after the game. FACT so your info is not dead on and I was standing outside of the ref locker room when the left the gym and the officer was there the whole tim FACT. :ylsuper:
