With that said I have to take back my post that Scott County's program is the blueprint for success in the 11th region.

 

Lexington Catholic's program is the blueprint for success as they no question develop players better than anyone else starting with their middle school program. They have more quality homegrown players because their system is better. As a matter of fact other programs have benefitted from players they helped develop.

I'll point out to you that Jared Carter had an offer from Roy Williams at North Carolina and Perry Stevenson from Rick Barnes at Texas.

 

Why would you say they are not Kentucky caliber recruits?

About you saying my logic isn't right on the foul call , all I said is if it wasn't a clear foul it shouldn't get called. If it's obvious make the call everytime, but I have watched the tape And it looked like Guyn got a lot of ball there.

 

With that said, I'm not bitter about the loss, maybe a little upset last night. Catholic played a great game and deserved the win as they did outplay Scott County last night. That 2-2-1 press has always given Billy trouble for whatever reason. And once again, what a game last night, these two teams battle each other like no other.

My question is this. Why would Guyn want to shoot the ball and Scott County with a 1 point lead? To me that was just idiotic! Make them foul you and put you on the stripe.

No. My son is a freshman and we have played the LexCath version of a middle school team(they have no official middle school, but they field a team) and we recognized Ross Muncy and Craig Floyd from past games, but at no time had we ever seen Jaylen Beckham and we played them 2 times a year for the last 3 years in middle school. I don't know where he came from, but I am assuming from somewhere in Lexington. Does anyone know for sure. He was my favorite player to watch and I look forward to watching him grow in high school.

I think I saw a 2 year old and under AAU team with Knights on the jerseys running that 2-2-1 press. Salsman does a great job, but the kids grow up perfecting that system of pressing.

 

I constantly hear that any coach that knows anything can beat a 2-2-1 just get the ball to the middle. A well coached 2-2-1 with athletes that constantly adjust the way they attack, make it very hard to do so! It becomes player adjustment to get it to the middle, it is not always that the coach didnt prepare them for the obvious. A coach can make changes during timeouts, but if the d keeps changing their attack points, the players will still have to make the right decisions.

As far as the foul call, I was not there. Refs tend to swallow the whistle late, but usually it is because they want to make sure of a violation instead of determining the game on percentages. If they clearly saw a foul, weak or not, and it was called a foul during the game, it is still a foul with .1 seconds remaining.

I believe that Jaylen Beckham went to Bryan Station middle school. I remember him playing in the Middle School State Tournament last year, he's a great player and will only get better. Congrats to the young man and the Knights!:thumb:

Jackson has the most upside of point guards, and may be the best point in his class, but Ethan Faulkner is the best true point in the state throwing in all the factors. Ball handling, vision, shooting, strength, heart, and leadership.

Disagree, the Lakers would still make the playoffs. Just like Scott County would've still won if they had any type of press breaker, or Ge-Lawn didn't take a contested baseline hook shot with 25 seconds and a 1 point lead. Scott County had 4 players on their end of the half court line and one player, usually Jackson, try to dribble through the press himself or throw a full court pass against it. Sounds like a great press breaker to me :idunno: . I really don't understand how the coaches do not at least put someone in the middle or let two people try to dribble through it instead of one. Scott County's FG % had to be ridiculous, especially in the second half. If everything they threw up didn't go in, it would've been a 15 point game. Guyn was on fire from three (hitting contested threes multiple times) and I think he is hardly above 30% on the year if that. Jackson, I think, was 2-2 from three and I'm pretty sure his last lable would be a shooter. Great win by Catholic and Vee Sanford is a player. His floater is the prettiest I've seen, and that is a very hard shot to master. Taylor Botkin also had a monster tournament, and clutch free throws by the youngster Martin. Jaylen Beckham has got to be the best 6th man in the state.

 

Scott County is like the Lakers in that they still are top 5-10 without Phares, and top 5 without Phares but add a game plan.

 

Take Lebron away from the Cavs and they are below average :thumb: !!

Phares is a very good player, but they still have three D-1 type players in the starting 5. How many teams in the state can say they have this much talent on the court. Congrats to Lex. Cath and the coaching staff.

Herald Leader photo clearly shows Gelawn fouling Martin by undercutting him on the shot. Gelawn has to shoulder part of the loss on this one. Bad shot decision up 1 late, and then foul on last shot by Martin.

 

If SC fans are complaining about calls, they need to stop. Hicks works the refs better than just about anyone in KY (maybe Allan Feldhaus at MC). If it is true they left their trophy by the refs lockeroom, that is pretty classless.

 

I know SC fans are disappointed. When you clearly have the most talent in KY on one team, it hurts even more to not even make it to the Sweet 16. But KY is loaded with good teams, and only 1 team ends on a win.

 

LC played better team ball. SC is a group of talented players on the floor at the same time. Maybe they will come together as a team by next year. To me, they all seem to be worried about their individual stats. It could just be the pressure of being on a highly talented team. You know as a player that you have got to produce big time, or there are 4 other guys sitting on the bench ready to take your minutes.

Just goes to show that you have to have some good luck and avoid some bad luck to even GET to the Sweet 16 in many cases. Many were touting Scott County as having the talent of a small college team this year, and maybe so. However, the injury to Phares couldn't have come at a worse time (with no time to adjust).

 

Sometimes you have to be lucky AND good.
