Phares would definitely make a huge difference inside, but no excuses for the amount of turnovers doing the same thing over and over. Agree Scott County is way different with Phares and he is the best player on this team, but he is not a point guard or a human press breaker. I just can't get over SC's poor attempts to break the press. Even without coach's word doesn't a player maybe think to himself, "Oh no! My buddy is in trouble! There are 3 or 4 guys on him and he needs help! Maybe I should trot towards him to save him!"

There was some good talent on the floor tonight.

 

Of all the college prospects in this game, I think Chad Jackson is the most promising. He can play the point guard position. He is a good ball handler, he is long and athletic, he sees the floor, and most importantly....he passes first and looks for his shot as a second resort. Kind of reminds me of former UK player Wayne Turner only with a better shot.

 

If I were a college coach and had to pick one player from tonight's game, it would be Chad Jackson. He has a big upside at the next level.

That might be where the playing as a team could have come into play. You'd like to think that your teammates would come help you when 2 guys have you trapped and the 3rd is waiting to pick off you pass that was probably heading out of bounds anyways. I still have to say that the coach should have had at least 1 play to break the press.

I saw Euton and Jackson several times last year at Rose Hill and 5-6 times this season at SC.

 

I kind of agree, that I am not overly impressed by either player. Jackson definitely made more progress than Euton over the course of the season. Euton seems to have peaked about a year ago.

 

Worries me about Euton's prospects at UK. He is basically a spot up (when open) shooter. If we can't get Meeks an open look, I don't see how Euton is getting those open looks in the SEC.

 

You can say that Euton may not be UK material, but the kid is a really good high school player and I don't believe you have watched these two players that much especially if your not impressed by Jackson. This kid is easily the best true point guard in the state and does his job well. He doesn't shoot a lot of jumpers because he doesn't need to. Tonight he had some turnovers with a poorly planned press offense, but the kid has been incredibly solid at not commiting turnovers throughout the season.

Jackson has the most upside of point guards, and may be the best point in his class, but Ethan Faulkner is the best true point in the state throwing in all the factors. Ball handling, vision, shooting, strength, heart, and leadership.

I know Ethan is a great player, but I have to disagree, Jackson will clearly be the best player at the next level. It's not like Jackson doesn't score either, he just doesn't do it with 3 pointers very often. However, when he does shoot outside, he does seem to knock them down. I would be interested to see his percentage for the year from beyond the arc.

I, too, love Ethan Faulkner's game and look forward to seeing him and his Elliott County team play in Rupp Arena next week.

Fundamentally, Chad Jackson is much better.

 

I think Wayne Turner shot nearly 50% from the field in his UK career, but many of them were layups. From 3 point range, I would guess a very low percentage with not many attempts.

 

Chad Jackson has a chance to be a much better shooter in college in my opinion.

I know Scott County was missing phares, I am really suprized with this outcome. I saw Scott County's 45 point win against Campbell County about a month ago, and they looked like the top team in the state. IMO I think even without Phares they should still have won this game. Great win for Lex Cath.
