Does anyone have the Holmes FT numbers? It was ugly.

Actually both Boone and Holmes are currently 15-1 in the region and Holmes is 30-2 while Boone is 25-4. Both have had great seasons, but I wouldn't say one has had a better season in region than the other considering Boone lost to Highlands (a team Holmes beat) and Holmes lost to Boone. Overall, there's no way Boone has had a better season considering the amount of top 25 wins Holmes has and they are still the only team in KY to beat the team from Georgetown.

 

"Best season in the region" is what he said. If both were 15-1 and Boone beat Holmes, then Boone's was better in the region.

Does anyone have the Holmes FT numbers? It was ugly.

 

This could be the end of them eventually.

Why is it half the people picked Beechwood to beat Boone County and yet hardly anybody pick Ryle to be Holmes? or Why will 90% of the people on this board will tell you that Cov-Holmes is the best team in the 9th, yet Boone Co had the best season in the region?

 

Holmes had the best season in the 9th region and had some key victories over very good teams such as Scott Co and Franklin Co and others. Our only signature win was vs. Holmes but that was at home. Ryle does not score many points and did not have a point guard that penetrated and caused defensive problems for other teams so only Ryle fans or Holmes-bashers could have ever predicted an upset. Beechwood had one of their best teams ever with a lot of seniors and some felt they could beat Boone in a first-round upset. They almost did. Ryle played a whale of a game and most people were very surprised to see them leading in this game in the second half, especially after trailing 14-2 early.

Holmes had one loss in the region, Boone Co had one loss in the region. Boone won the regular season matchup, if they seeded the 9th region tournment Boone County would be the #1 seed. Who do you think Boone Co has a better chance of beating Highlands or Holmes, I'll bet you they would rather play Holmes than Highlands!

Henley explains it best in regards to Holmes low scoring games recently:

 

“In the 9th Region for the last two months, we’ve been playing grind-it-out games,” Henley said. “The more possessions in a game, the better our chances are. But it’s not going to happen. Teams are going to play ball control and play physical and run straight back on defense. I don’t think Newport Catholic is going to try to get the game up in the 80s. It’s postseason, and in postseason, it comes down to executing in a half-court offense and getting stops in a half-court defense. It’s always been that way.”

It just seems to me that even though Holmes is obviosly playing good defense to hold a team to 34, they should be scoring more. Either they need to get more turnover/transition points or more points out of your offense. I looked at the scoring and it seems like I would expect between 4 and 6 more out of some of those guys a night. They could use Pittman and Rico to be around 15 or 16 a game, Riley and JJ and Dom Johnson around 10 or 12, Rice and Housely around 6 or 8, etc.

I doubt very seriously Boone (or any 9th region team for that matter) would rather play Holmes on a neutral court over Highlands.

It just seems to me that even though Holmes is obviosly playing good defense to hold a team to 34, they should be scoring more. Either they need to get more turnover/transition points or more points out of your offense. I understand what he's saying, but I don't care whether you're playing in the 9th region, the NCAA tournament, the NBA, or the And 1 mix tape tour. 4 points in a quarter isn't going to cut it....

Boone can beat either team. Either team can beat the Rebels. I do think that Boone has a better chance of beating Holmes than does Highlands. At this time, the games will probably be close regardless of opponent. Boone is only worried about Highlands and cannot think about Holmes right now. Tourney time brings that extra bit of defensive intensity - gotta love it.

The best thing about these arguments about Boone and Holmes is that it will all be settled by Tuesday night at the BOKC.

I have watched Holmes a few times this season, and it may just be me but I feel like Holmes, a lot of times, plays to their competition level, does anyone else feel that way? The refs let the boys play tonight, and I think that worked out in Holmes favor big time. Like a few mentioned before, Ryle looked scared out their for most of the game!

Instead, the Bulldogs were settling for long jump shots from the first player who touched the ball. Pittman simply said his team let up its intensity.
