Holmes 41 Ryle 34

Featured Replies

Beechwood had the 3rd best record in the region at 16-4. Ryle proabely better than thier record, but thier record was 9-6 in the region. Boone County second opponent Highlands has the 4th best record in the region at 13-5, and most people on this board had them rated either the 2nd or 3rd best team in the region. Boone County definately had the tougher draw! But that is just the luck of the draw, it's not a negative on Holmes.

We'll continue to agree to disagree then. Of course Ryle fans are going to say it was a good clean hard foul. Would you have thought the same thing though had that been a Ryle player going up and a Holmes player did that? I'm going to assume the Ryle fans would have reacted the same way and called it intentional as well, so let's look at it from both perspectives here.

Also, I think Holmes fans were more worried about their player getting hurt than seeing him dunk. :rolleyes: Pittman had every right to be upset after the play...I saw several Ryle players react to MUCH smaller things than that during the game...especially Stauffer.

I'm not a fan of either (8th region for me) and was at the game. No one knows the intent of the player. From my perspective, it was a hard foul...not dirty or flagrant. I'd bet there will be more of those type of fouls if they make it to Rupp. Let's hope the not very well thought out reaction at half-time is different the next time it occurs.

I wish someone would post a video of this. Pittman was not "up in the air about to dunk" when he was fouled and the foul was not "unclassy" by Lamping - it was a hard foul and that's all. I would submit that Pittman's reaction was "unclassy." Holmes' fans are simply disappointed they didn't get to see him dunk. And I was sitting around many fans who agreed it was a clean foul. The ref was right on top of the play - right there. Apparently he didn't see it as you did either.

Seeing dunks is all well and good, but more than anything it can spark the TEAM. I for one, was not disappointed in not seeing a dunk there, but when you know what's about to happen before it does, thats disappointing. Seen alot of dunks from Holmes this year on breakaways, and there's only one Team where I've had to anticipate a very hard foul.

Beechwood had a 16-4 record in region but 10 of those wins were against D3 competition. (Smallest schools in nky.)

Beechwood was 6-5 against D1 and D2 schools in nky. Considering Ryle beat Beechwood head to head, I'd say they are a much tougher opponent than Beechwood.

Highlands was 14-5 in the region with NCC being 13-6. NCC beat Highlands twice and beat them by 22 just a week ago. Again, I'd consider NCC a much tougher opponent than Highlands.

So both of Holmes' first two opponents have beaten Boone's first two opponents, so how do you figure Boone got a tougher draw?? Don't let records fool you.

Been to the sweet sixteen many many times and honestly cant remember a whole lot of hard fouls on breakaway dunk attempts.

Probably because there aren't a ton of breakaway dunks attempts. Defenses are too good and opportunities don't arise that often. Point here it there will, undoubtedly, be hard fouls. It would be great to see that players are mentally prepared to handle it. I'm sure whoever comes out of the 9th will be prepared.

Believe me, I understand what you are saying. I have no problem with hard fouls if the player shooting is facing the defender and knows he's there. What I don't like to see, is a player come from behind with no intent of getting his hand on the ball.

My last post on the subject. It wasn't intentional. Complain to your heart's content about the "brutal" Ryle basketball team. If your implication is that they play dirty, you obviously haven't seen them play much or know much about them . . .

It was clear to you and Holmes fans and we will have to disagree. It was a hustle play where the Ryle player made up quite a bit of distance and came down very hard across his arms and prevented a dunk. The ball was attached to the arm. Hard foul does not equal intentional.

The refs let most everything go both ways all night. The lady ref grabbed Pittman when she saw it might get out of control. That might have been the best move all night. The refs observed a very physical game just like the rest of us.

One to many no calls IMO

You can have Chappie and Edgington back:D

:thumb::clap:

No thank you!!! :eyeonyou::ohbrother:

Paintsville had a couple hard fouls last year. I was there and saw it plain as day :eyeonyou:

I have to respectfully disagree. Pittman was in the air about to dunk when Lamping ran in to him with the body and undercut him. His intent was clear. Why do you think he missed the dunk? Because Lamping ran in to him as he was about to throw it down, which threw him away from the rim. Had he swiped at the ball, like you said, Pittman wouldn't have even touched the rim with the ball. It was a one hand dunk attempt...not two. From the pictures you can tell that Lamping made no attempt toward the ball.

I've seen Pittman get hacked harder than that before and not complain or react, but rather get up and go about his business. Bottom line, it wasn't a very classy move by Lamping. Pittman had every right to be upset after the play as it should have been called an intentional foul...seems like you and maybe one or two others are the only ones who disagree. There were several Ryle, Dixie, and NCC parents sitting behind me and even they agreed it should have been called intentional.

One positive though, after the game during the handshake, both gave one another a friendly half hug to bury the hatchet and showed great sportsmanship, which is what it's all about.

The ref has two decisions to make on a foul like this. First, was the defender making a basketball play? From what I saw , he was. He slapped down hard on the arm to prevent Pittman from going up. That in itself if why Pittman was not able to dunk. Legit basketball play.

The 2nd decision involves severity of the foul. Did it lead to a hard fall, for example? If so, even though it was a legit basketball play, it can still be deemed excessive which would result in 2 shots and the ball.

If, as some contend, Lamping undercut the kid while he was trying to dunk, it would most likely have resulted in an ejection, two shots and the ball.

The official made the correct call IMO.

I would like to say a couple if things. First of all, I beleive that the object of the game of basketball is that whoever has the most points after 4 quarters and if they are tied after four quarters. The team who has the most points after each over time is the winner of the game. It don't say that a team has to win by 20,30,40,etc... to make it a win. I do beleive the Bulldogs have approximately 30 of them. Throughout the year Holmes has won by 1 to 29 pts. They have not won by more than 29 because Henley has to much class to blow anybody out and will sub early. To be honest Holmes do not have any injuries(major) due to the subs at the end of games.(IMO) Secondly, I would support any team who goes to the state tournament from the ninth region. I was at the 1981 Simon Kenton game and went to a party after the game. The reason for this post is that Holmes will still have our local fans (a few, not all) root against them!:ohbrother::idunno: I know each of us have our own schools to cheer for, but lets bring one to NKY. It's been to long. :dancingpa
