The fact still remains though, despite being "offensively challenged", playing bad, not shooting well, and every other negative that people continue to point out after Holmes victories, they're still winning. Let's remember these are just KIDS! They're not going to be perfect every game like some of us adults expect them to be. Who cares if they win by 7 or 20? A win is a win...at this point in the season it's about "survive and advance." I'm sure Coach Henley and his players could care less about "style points."

I completely agree with you, they are just kids and they have had an immense amount of pressure put on them this season by playing under a microscope. We have picked this team apart all season, I believe in Holmes tremendously and want to see them get down to Rupp and make a run. I believe that this team has the talent to do so. I agree that they could care less about style points and the margin of victory. I want to see the Bulldog's bring that trophy home to the 9th more than anyone. But in order to do so they have to stop playing to the level of their competition and play to the level of their ability. I they can do that, they should win the title.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe Ryle plays pretty good defense themselves? Again, they have given up more than 60 points just 4 times this year and have scored in the 30's 5 times...I think that tells you their games are going to be pretty low scoring regardless of the opponent.

 

Holmes has scored under 50 points just 4 times this year...so why all of a sudden are they "offensively challenged?" One game doesn't describe a team. It's about the match ups, and lately Holmes has been playing good defensive teams who don't like to get out and run. (Holy Cross, Ryle) Beechwood tried running with them in the district championship and got blown out of the gym...ah how we forget though because of one game. :idunno:

 

This, without a doubt, is true and was Ryle's strength this season. It was very difficult to take the ball inside against Ryle this year and they rebounded well. Teams that can shoot from the outside (like Holmes) were the ones that gave Ryle problems. And, of course, Ryle's big problem was that they just didn't have a very consistent offense.

Tough game but Holmes is still in the hunt. We should tip our hats to Ryle for a gutty performance.

I have to respectfully disagree. Pittman was in the air about to dunk when Lamping ran in to him with the body and undercut him. His intent was clear. Why do you think he missed the dunk? Because Lamping ran in to him as he was about to throw it down, which threw him away from the rim. Had he swiped at the ball, like you said, Pittman wouldn't have even touched the rim with the ball. It was a one hand dunk attempt...not two. From the pictures you can tell that Lamping made no attempt toward the ball.

 

I've seen Pittman get hacked harder than that before and not complain or react, but rather get up and go about his business. Bottom line, it wasn't a very classy move by Lamping. Pittman had every right to be upset after the play as it should have been called an intentional foul...seems like you and maybe one or two others are the only ones who disagree. There were several Ryle, Dixie, and NCC parents sitting behind me and even they agreed it should have been called intentional.

 

One positive though, after the game during the handshake, both gave one another a friendly half hug to bury the hatchet and showed great sportsmanship, which is what it's all about.

The top teams get evrybody's best shot. Survive and advance is all that counts and Holmes did that. By the way, what's with all the empty seats down near the floor. The photos kind of make me wonder. Wish we could all get seats like that in the 16th. And, while I'm on the subject, you can have your officials back. They are no better than ours!

But you are making it sound as though Pittman was flying through the air ready to jam the ball and Lamping cut him out from underneath and that's just not the way it happened. Lamping is physical, but not dirty. In the end - unless someone has a video of it - you are right and we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Yeah, 41 will not get it done vs. Boone, Scott Co., Clark Co., definitely not Elliott Co and against anyone who comes out of the 6th or 7th region.

 

Holmes is a pretty good defensive basketball team. If you win by 1 or 100, it does not matter. They've proven themselves as one of the two or three best teams in the state and can win a game against anyone

The fact of the matter is that Boone got the toughest draw in the tournament and must beat the 3 toughest teams to win it, so they need to focus on each game one at a time.

 

How do you figure that? Take a look at Holmes and Boone's first round opponents. Didnt Ryle beat Beechwood head to head? Not to mention Holmes just beat the tigers by 20 a week ago. How bout their second round opponents. Hasn't NCC beat HHS twice this year and just waxed them by 20 a week ago?

 

That doesnt look like a tougher draw to me.
