My last post on the subject. It wasn't intentional. Complain to your heart's content about the "brutal" Ryle basketball team. If your implication is that they play dirty, you obviously haven't seen them play much or know much about them . . .

As was I and there were no hard fouls on breakawy dunk attempts.

 

Hard foul is a hard foul which was probably a layup that could have been a dunk. :thumb: :sssh:

I am a Holmes fan and it was a clean hard foul. I would have done the same thing. It would have been nice to see Pittman say nothing and walk to the FT line and make the FTs. It definately changed the momentum for Ryle as opposed to letting him dunk and giving Holmes a spark.

The ref has two decisions to make on a foul like this. First, was the defender making a basketball play? From what I saw , he was. He slapped down hard on the arm to prevent Pittman from going up. That in itself if why Pittman was not able to dunk. Legit basketball play.

 

The 2nd decision involves severity of the foul. Did it lead to a hard fall, for example? If so, even though it was a legit basketball play, it can still be deemed excessive which would result in 2 shots and the ball.

 

If, as some contend, Lamping undercut the kid while he was trying to dunk, it would most likely have resulted in an ejection, two shots and the ball.

 

The official made the correct call IMO.

 

We'll continue to agree to disagree then. We have to remember they let the kids play more physical in the 16th region than they do up here. Both teams got away with ALOT of hacks around the rim last night. Do you think a 9th region ref would have called it intentional? I've seen a few intentionals this year on less severe fouls than that one.

It would have been a FT shooting contest with 9th region refs. I did not see any intentional fouls called in the games I went to this year so this probably would not have been called intentional since contact was made with Pittman on his arms on the floor as he was getting ready to do a Lebron James Jr. One thing for sure, the players would have had to adjust their style with 9th region refs or everyone may have fouled out.

They did let them play last night early on. Most of the fouls were called in the 4th qt.

I've already explained my view and have no dawg in the fight. No need to discuss any further. Here's hoping for a chance for a Holmes-Boone final. Congrats to Holmes on doing what they had to do to beat a scrappy Ryle team that shot very poorly and still only lost by 7 to a top team in KY.

It's not like Holmes shot much better. They were 6-20 at halftime and it didn't get much better in the second half. Let's not act like Holmes played superb and Ryle just played bad because that is far from the truth. It was an ugly game by both teams, shooting wise.

Just going by expectations I had. Boone handled Ryle easily 3 times (12, 15, and 20 point margins) and the Dawgs struggled to beat them. Ryle struggles offensively.

Boone struggled to beat Beechwood with the Tigers' best player hurt the whole game, while Holmes beat them by 19 and 21 with their best player healthy. Holmes also beat Ryle by 14 in Union (led by 19 with 1:00 to play), so let's not get wrapped up in one game my friend.

 

It's more about match ups than anything and that is evident by Highlands easily handling Boone but losing to Holmes.

Glad you said it, saved me the trouble.:thumb: What scares me and we all know it's not what Coaches want to hear, but Holmes has BC in their sights. Hopefully, they can escape again on Sunday and then the rematch. Of course, Boone has to get past Highlands as well.
