Holmes 41 Ryle 34

Featured Replies

I have been suggesting all season that last year's Holmes team was better than this year's model.

That's funny I felt weird saying it but told my buddy that was there with me the same thing.

Been saying it all season. His toughness has yet to be replaced, and if someone doesn't step up SOON the season isn't going to go how they want it to...

Holmes has to play better than that to be considered a contender for a State Ring and

Ryle looked at times that they were afraid to shoot the ball. You cant score if you don't shoot it especially the last two minutes of the game .

The Holmes School of Defense - chapter 3. Holy Cross scores 24; Beechwood scores 43 (their lowest total of the year) and Ryle gets 34. Keep playing defense like that and there will be enough offense to win. Don't everyone start thinking there are issues because Holmes is not fulfilling everyone's perception of them as some run and gun high powered offense. Defense wins championships.

While you can get by beating the HC, Bwood and the Ryles of the world by just playing "D" (and it is true you win with "D") Holmes "O" really needs to step up, as others have mentioned, when you start playing the likes of Scott and Elliotts Counties of the world.

I am truly rooting for Holmes and I think the majority of HS BBall fans of the NKy area are too, but Holmes needs to step it up..... Many, myself included, think this team has the make up of more than just making it to Rupp and winning one game or two.....

Survive and advance is what its about. Nice gutsy effort by the Raida'z... Dogs better get it together for Sunday because NCC will be a major battle.

NCC won't come close :thumb:

That's what you said about Ryle too...

Not going to win many scoring 41???

Yeah, 41 will not get it done vs. Boone, Scott Co., Clark Co., definitely not Elliott Co and against anyone who comes out of the 6th or 7th region.

Already proved they can win against 7th, SC and will soon put Boone in the same category. If they make it passed Highlands. :thumb:

I agree...but you have to credit Pittman for the way he stepped up in the third quarter after Ryle took the lead.

From Ryan Ernst blog:

"Holmes coach David Henley has always said that if/when Elijah Pittman figures out that he has to play hard all the time, he's going to be really, really good. Well, he figured it out midway throught the third quarter. He had a personal 7-0 run -- three free throws, a layup and a two-hand follow dunk -- that put Holmes in control. He also had two blocks and a few boards during the stretch."

Agreed. Now let's see it for the next 2 weeks, and the Dogs will be fine...

I said double digits. 3 reasons it was kept close.

Ryle made their run when Holmes started settling for jumpers, rather than taking it to the rim and being aggressive, like they did early.

Outside of DJ hitting two 3's to put Holmes up 14-2 early on, Holmes didn't shoot the ball very well. They were 6-20 (30%) from the field in the first half. They should have continued taking it to the rim and utilized their athleticism.

For Ryle, Mcleish played a great game tonight, offensively. He hit several big shots to get Ryle back in the game.
