And actually, since you weren't there, I'll give you a recap of what happened.

 

Giwa went up for a shot and got fouled by Arnold, Giwa then walked by Arnold and bumped him with his shoulder so Arnold used his forearm to push him away. Shouldn't have been done and he has to control his emotions but it was more of a case of him getting caught, and not Giwa. The refs weren't even going to call it until the HC crowd went crazy.

Here come the excuses. The kid threw it at Giwa, he got caught. He has done it over and over all year. Arnold's fault, no one else's.

First off, good job Holmes and good luck. :thumb: Second, he was more interested in talking than playing, just as I figured and a lot thought he would. If he and 34 don't do some maturing quick it could be HHS's downfall. On another note I think Ricardo is a fine kid with a good head on his shoulders, much more a prospect if you judge by character than Pittman.

 

So because of a basketball game the kid doesn't have any character? Let's remember we're talking about a 16 yr old KID. If you met the kid, you'd realize he is one of the most polite kids on the team. Any time you ask him a question the answer always is yes sir/mam or no sir/mam.

 

And let's not act like the HC kids are saints out there on the court. I saw Giwa smack away D. Johnson's hand several times tonight when he put his hand in to guard him. One right in front of a ref, and when Giwa smacked his hand (every one in the gym saw it, including the Beechwood players and coaches sitting around me), DJ gets called for the push?? Trimpe also pushed Riley several times and Riley finally went over and asked a ref to watch him and Trimpe got called for it a few possessions later.

 

I saw several HC players do their fair share of talking tonight as well, and have seen it from several other players and teams around nky as well...does that mean they have no character as well?

Excuses? Didn't Holmes just win by 21? I don't think I've made any excuses. But let's not act like Giwa did absolutely nothing to provoke it. Henley even questioned the call against Arnold.

The real killer for HC was when Arnold got the T and they only made 1 of 4 ft's and did not score on the possession. IMO if they make all of their ft's and get a bucket, they get all the momentum and maybe keep it close.

I am a big Holmes supporter, but what disappoint's me is some of the people out here that are constantly putting Holmes down. If Holmes doesn't blow everyone out, then they are not as good as advertised. If a Holmes player trash talks or bumps a kid, then they have no discipline. No matter what Holmes does, it is never right or enough.

 

Listen people, Holmes is 28-2 against one of the stronger & possibly the toughest schedule in the entire state. They are winning better than 93% of their games. They just beat their crosstown rival in the district's on the opposing team's home floor. Give them some credit, they have definitely earned it.

I would like to inform anyone who thinks I'm just trying to put down Holmes, I'm a big fan. I would like for them to bring home the state championship if all works well. I just don't like seeing a kid repeatedly getting out of hand. There comes a time to make a statement and it might be about time is my point.

I know the HC kids did there fair share, but they were being taunted by a kid who can't handle winning gracefully. I know E and you obviously don't know him that well b/c thats not accurate as far as his chararcter. Also, Shina smacked Dom's hand away b/c it was clearly up in his jersey all over his chest? Were you not watching?:confused: I realize it goes both ways but this game confirmed what I think and a lot others (hopefully someone as smart as you) see and that is Holmes team lead by a great kid in Rico, but distractions in Pittman and Arnold. This thread shouldn't come to this so I am sorry and won't talk about it anymore.

I thought it was 31 for Holmes and not 34. Anyway both need to carry themselves more professionally on the court. They'll face substantive people and players soon who won't be fazed by the drama. I couldn't agree more about R. Johnson. I would take him and his brother into battle with me any day.

As much as it seems I don't like HHS and am putting them down, I feel the same way you do, there are some great kids on that team and I wish them all the best. :thumb:

HHS played some good D and really turned on the press at times. They have some heady guys out there that can really pressure the ball well. And yes, HC couldm't throw it in the ocean. :lol:

Congrats to Holmes. Not easy to go into the enemy's camp and win by 21 in a do-or-die game. 1st game of a tourney is always the toughest. Hate to see such low scores all year by HC - just a personal preference for watching more up-tempo basketball. Can't blame HC followers for not filling the house and watching that type of ball all year long.

ONly if Henley continues to let it happen without shelving him. I know they are in the running for a state championship this season but Arnold is developing a bad reputation.

 

A very reliable source told me he made gestures toward the Highlands coach after dropping 7 straight on them near halftime of that game. Just ridiculous and they don't need the bad rap.

 

I thought this group was supposed to be different than past Holmes teams. I just hate to see negative stuff like this take away from the outstanding year they are having. We all want a 9th Region team to take state and if its Holmes so be it but I can tell you I really hate to see that kind of immature behavior out of kids. It makes my stomach turn.

 

BTW- How hard was this game to watch tonight. Jeeez

I am curious as to what some of the HC faithful/alum think of the style of play that HC has now. It is so different than what I remember from HC teams in the past.
