UK is just not a National Power any more. I don't see UK making it to a final four for at least 5 years.

 

I think within 5 years would be a shock. I may be so bold as to say it may be another 10 years.

I really don't see much difference in Tubby's last two years and these two with BCG. As has been stated many times on here, no seniors and one junior that is a consistent contributor. While BCG does have that stubborn streak I think thing are getting better on the recruiting front. Compliance department was a problem for Tubby also. If things aren't on a serious upswing for next year then I'll start to worry.

I don't see any difference. We'd be 19-9 or worse with Tubs right now. Billy G hasn't had a chance to bring in many of his players to this point. I can't figure out why people would have expected anything different from this club, this year.

It's a bit ironic isn't it? We saw the same old beating the dead horse threads about wanting to get rid of Tubby. :lol:

Well then I guess UK fans wished Boston never came a callin. Because during the end of the Tubby era it was coming down to March to see if they were gonna make the tourney, and its start off that way with the Clyde era. Mostly cause he is still cleaning up. But the fans want him to clean faster.

If I were a Kentucky fan, I would have never wanted Tubby gone in the first place. Then, I probably would have stopped cheering for the Cats once Billy G was hired..

I think the UK situation seems similar to what UCLA went through, post-Wooden. From 1962-1976, UCLA went to every Final Four but two. Now Kentucky didn't have that success, but they did field top caliber teams for close to ten years.

 

For UCLA, after Wooden retired:

*Gene Bartow was there two years (52-9), but then left.

*Gary Cunningham for two (52-9), but then left.

*Larry Brown for two (42-17), and went to the national championship game, but then left.

*Larry Farmer was there for three (61-23), but then left.

*Walt Hazzard was there for four (77-47), but then left.

 

During those thirteen years, UCLA went to the Final Four once. Each coach had great records, but didn't get over the hump. But the tenure wasn't long, either. So maybe they never got the chance to get over the hump. Jim Harrick came and took them once (with a title). Steve Lavin never went. It wasn't until Ben Howland came in 2004, some 28 years after Wooden, that they've had sustained trips to the Final Four.

 

Point being, all of those coaches were successful, but not UCLA-successful. And they all left quickly because the pressure was too much and they didn't win enough. Bartow left for UAB and Brown left for the New Jersey Nets.

 

Could any of those coaches have stayed at UCLA and went to the Final Four, maybe win a title? Sure. But they had to get out. Can Gillispie stay and win at Kentucky? Maybe. But if he's pushed out, then you bring another in. And maybe another after that. And before long, it's 28 years before you're in a Final Four.

It all comes down of hiring the RIGHT COACH,and I think Billy Donovan would have been that Coach,but he stay at Florida. End of story.
