I've never been a user, but I voted yes for legalization. It grows from the earth. As far as I know, crack doesn't. I say decriminalize it and tax it. I don't think it would make things any worse.

 

Crack cocaine is a derivative of powder cocaine. Cocaine comes from a plant known as the Coca plant which can often be found in South America.

I know that. Not from experience, though.

If you're selling drugs to make your living, you're not selling just weed. That bridge you mention has already been crossed. If someone is selling weed only, chances are almost 100 percent they're only doing it to keep a supply for themselves and a few choice friends, and probably wouldn't mind getting put out of business.

 

:thumb: Considering it is a gateway drug and we are giving somewhat of a pass to dealers who are pushing other drugs: We face the following problems....

 

1. Research has not been performed to the extent of tobacco on long term consequences, opening up our court systems in the future to major lawsuits.

 

2. We are letting moral standards slide. I am willing to do so and the risk of #1, if we put much more stringent laws on those selling drugs other than marijuana.

 

3. This is only feasable and logical if we decide that the lower economic part of society is best treated with pacification, and even a lower motivation to work, to keep them out of the way and make our society work at its premium.

 

4. If you buy into #3 as a viable option, you dont understand what Im saying, or what I stand for!

Legalize it, I've never seen a violent stoner. Too much money is wasted on busting marijuana users/dealers.

I'm not sure, but I can tell you this. If one of my children had to get in a vehicle (say to go across town to pick up medicine to save my life) with either someone who was stoned or someone who had consumed a few beers I would pick the high dude 100 out of 100 times. I would also much rather be around someone who was stoned than a drunk. I of course would prefer and expect my children to stay away from both but I feel alcohol is much more destructive in so many ways. I did my share of drinking back in the day but I believe drinking can and does much more damage to individuals and families than marijuana could ever do.

The state of Kentucky would make a lot of money if marijuana was legalized. It used to be, and not sure if it still is, the number one cash crop of the state.

 

I'd imagine that marijuana is the #1 cash crop in the majority of states.

 

Part of that is because of the price that marijuana can be sold for. The other part is that it's illegal, so the people making money off of it aren't going to pay income tax on it...

But some people are going to be without jobs. I am not saying I support drug trafficing, but those people would be dangerous, IMO, without having a source of income because the government has taken it away.

I vote legalize it. You'll free up a lot of overcrowded prisons. You'll save a significant amount of money in police forces around the nation. You'll actually MAKE more money from taxing the product.

No I dont think so. If it was then you would have many many folks walking around stoned all the time. LOL

 

I think the statistics of users would be startling and I think there are a ton of casual users who hold very important positions. It has to remain against the law.

 

I think you'd be shocked at how many marijuana smokers there are currently. And many of those are holding very important positions. Even if you disagree with that, then shouldn't the decision of those "very important" people be up to them? If they're not responsible to handle their job & their life outside of work, then do we really want them to hold those important positions anyway? I know that I don't.

Do you mean that you support medical marijuana, but not recreational marijuana? If so, that's an interesting thought. I'd disagree with that, but I could see how that argument would work. I guess it'd make marijuana more of a prescription drug...

 

Or did you mean that you don't want it legalized because of the potential medical side effects, such as testicular cancer? Because if so, we'd have to outlaw cigarettes, alcohol, and every other carcinogen.

The thing about alcohol vs weed is that you can drink enough alcohol to kill yourself. You can't OD on marijuana.

I think you have watched "Reefer Madness" one to many times. I'm not sure that argument has ever held up. No doubt people that move on to hard drugs probably smoked weed at one time or another but I don't buy the argument that it is a stepping stone drug. I think individuals who are destined to ruin their lives with drugs would make their way to that point with or without weed.

I would say legalize it, except for the fact that there would be SO many people high at work or during something important.
