California has just introduced a new bill to decriminalize marijuana.

 

CA Assemblyman Tom Ammiano says that it just "makes common fiscal sense". As you may be able to predict, I agree.

People that would smoke pot if it became legal are mot likely already smoking it now, therefore they are all probably eating at Little Cesars pretty consistently right now.

While I agree with you, I do think there is a (small) number of people who would consider smoking marijuana if it were legal. I think I would consider trying it.

Based on what I have quickly just read, legalizing it means that it is no longer against the law what so ever.

 

Decriminalizing it means that criminal charges no longer exist, but that the laws do still exist.

 

I'll try and read up on it more later, but I am substitute teaching right now.

You are correct. When it is decriminalized the penalties become very minuscule and aren't enforced (Amsterdam).

I can tell you what its like to live with a pot head and a alcoholic. The alcoholic was a jerk, mean, nasty and uncontrollable. The pot head was personable, funny (as you would expect) and could get along with everyone. Problem is, they both were the same person. My brother quit drinking after 20 years and during the 8 that he wasn't drinking he smoked weed and we felt like we had a new family member. Then he feel off the wagon and we burried him 2 years ago at 45...

 

Growing up with both, I would much rather have a pot head in my circle of friends then an alcoholic.

 

As someone who has done it before, I never once considered doing coke, uppers, downers, fizzles, huffing, and the other 90 drugs mentioned in that commercial. Gateway, nada. If you are going to do harder drugs, its because you are choosing. Not because pot made you.

 

Besides, if they legalized it, it might help lessen the amount of kids I see on my corner wistling all hours of the night trying to sell a dime bag (is that what its still called?) in additon to everything else.

Well, I drink whenever I am out of the country (but never in the US :sssh: ) so the age limit on alcohol doesn't bother me.

 

I have never and probably will never smoke cigarrettes because I think they are disgusting and addicting.

 

As for marijuana, I guess the legality has less to do with it. It is more the stigma- I know a lot of people smoke, but "Drug Possession" looks worse than "Underage Drinking" on a wrap sheet to an employer. If it were legal, I wouldn't do it regularly, but I'd try it.
