Well, I drink whenever I am out of the country (but never in the US :sssh: ) so the age limit on alcohol doesn't bother me.

 

I have never and probably will never smoke cigarrettes because I think they are disgusting and addicting.

 

As for marijuana, I guess the legality has less to do with it. It is more the stigma- I know a lot of people smoke, but "Drug Possession" looks worse than "Underage Drinking" on a wrap sheet to an employer. If it were legal, I wouldn't do it regularly, but I'd try it.

Go to Amsterdam, or Vancouver, or parts of Mexico, or Portugal, or go to California and get you a medical card. :sssh:

I think if it was put on the ballot it would pass. But if it goes through the state congress it would not. Politicians as a whole are weak and scared to take a risk.

Another added benefit of marijuana being legal is that hemp would then be legal and many farmers in Kentucky could grow hemp to make extra money. Back in middle school I wrote several speeches on legalizing hemp and used to have a lot of material on the benefits of hemp legalization. I think this is an added benefit that is rarely talked about and definitely a way to generate more money.

It is always good for a society to sell their soul out for monetary reasons. Worked well for us with allowing slavery to stay legal at the onset of this country.

I see a clear distinction between marijuana, slavery, and aborted babies. I fail to see that distinction between alcohol and marijuana.

Regulation of this drug would put a huge dent in crime and provide additonal tax revenue, as well as take a strain off the courts.

Wait, I think I may have misread your post. Are you saying that it is illegal for people smoking weed to have any healthcare or government healthcare?

 

I would have no problem disbarring marijuana smokers from government-run healthcare, but I don't think those who smoke bud should not be allowed to have healthcare from private firms.

One other positive side benefit of legalizing marijuana: Using the logic of our general assembly and their recent tax increases, we could levy a large tax and it would prevent young people from ever smoking, er, I mean toking

Big Brother is going to make more stuff ILLEGAL though - Transfats, etc.
