Marijuana does contain carcinogens, but people who smoke weed generally do not smoke as many joints as cigarette smokers do cigarettes. Therefore someone who smokes marijuana is probably less likely to see the damage than a cigarette smoker is.

 

Also based on what I've read, tobacco are one of the most addictive of all drugs while marijuana is less addictive than caffeine.

 

IMO Cigarettes are far more dangerous than marijuana...yet they are legal.

If something contains carcinogens, it is not possible for it to be relatively harmless compared to anything... It is possible for something containing carcinogens to be relatively less harmful than something else...

I don't think HB actually needs to be corrected. Saying something is relatively harmless isn't incorrect. However, saying something is relatively less harmful is redundancy.

That was the deal to bring the southern states into the Union. The people in power in the south were largely plantation and slave owners, they would not agree to any kind of union or even the Declaration of Independence if slavery were not allowed to continue.

 

I am not implying any moral standing one way or another in regards to the status of slavery in our nation's past. It existed for better or for worse and it was not the reason that the U.S. came into existence. It is simply one of those things that was debated.

This is the first thing we have agreed on. I don't think any government should pay for the treatment of an addiction.

It is always good for a society to sell their soul out for monetary reasons. Worked well for us with allowing slavery to stay legal at the onset of this country.

Are you in agreement with that as long as those who are using pot, if we legalize it, are responsible for themselves when they get sick (i.e. no government aid/healthcare, they would forego medical insurance, that way in the true libertarian sense they are not effecting the rest of us only themselves)?

 

I'm not a Libertarian, but how is that possible? How could you justify legalizing marijuana but not giving them the same protection as smokers, alcohol drinkers, and tobacco users? Or am I missing something here?

Marijuana is less addictive than caffeine :lol:. Should we ban caffeine too? People get addicted to soda because it contains caffeine. Soda's also have tons of sugar and if used too much will make people fat. Therefore they are very unhealthy and could contribute to many health problems for people. Should we ban soda as well?

 

And no, people don't smoke less marijuana because it is illegal. It is because it takes much less weed to get the effects that you want, than it does tobacco. Plus cigarettes contain many unnecessary additives that make it worse than it would be naturally...worse and addictive.

I'll use your example. Even though your problem is minor, you still have a problem. Even though the drugs you listed are harmful, you can not just use the word relative to make MJ not harmful. It is still harmful, just not as harmful as those you named.
