I will tell that to the families where I have seen it ruin their child's lives.

Marijuana alone has never ruined anyone's life, I guarantee that.

There were most likely other circumstances that contributed to ruining someone's life other than marijuana.

I've never seen or heard of anyone turning into a junkie over marijuana.

Still yet...weed, aborted babies and slavery are 3 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things. I don't care if weed has ruined hundreds of lives it will never do to this country what slavery did and I think it is completely wrong to compare the two.

Stating that pot is "relatively harmless" is silly as well... But we have been down this road once already...

Provide solid evidence otherwise, please.

I have been told on here that our wonderful and apparently perfect Founding Fathers left slavery in tact because it was financially beneficial to the building of our country.

Now, I am hearing it is financially beneficial for our country to legalizing marijuana.

It seems this country is ready to sell out if the price is right.

Smoking pot doesn't harm anyone but the user. For some reason, I'm pretty sure slavery affected many others besides the user.
Provide solid evidence otherwise, please.

Layup... Are you stating that marijuana does not have carcinogens in it???

Sorry you can not put "relatively harmless" and "known carcinogen" in the same sentence and not sound silly... I guess cigarettes are "relatively harmless" too...

:walk:

In fairness to dope, you rarely here of people being pulled over for DUI after smoking. While I don't smoke dope, I have been around those who have on a few occasions and the effects of the substance seem to impair functionality less than booze.

Just throwing that out there.

Rejection.

Marijuana does contain carcinogens, but people who smoke weed generally do not smoke as many joints as cigarette smokers do cigarettes. Therefore someone who smokes marijuana is probably less likely to see the damage than a cigarette smoker is.

Also based on what I've read, tobacco are one of the most addictive of all drugs while marijuana is less addictive than caffeine.

IMO Cigarettes are far more dangerous than marijuana...yet they are legal.

BTW, I should have stated,

In regards to drugs (including alcohol and tobacco) marijuana is relatively harmless. Of course it is not good for you. It's just not quite as bad as others, yet it's treated like crack.

WEAAAAAAAAAAK...

LOL, so let's see, instead of addressing the issue, you sidestep it and try to compare MJ to another harmful product... Are you sure you did not work for Philip Morris in the 70s?

Put the shovel down... Your first 4 words are enough to kill your argument... Just change your statement to read, yes marijuana is harmfull instead of relatively harmless...

Let's stick to the issue, and not each other please.

Read my very next post. Marijuana when compared to other drugs, even those which are legal in the United States, is relatively harmless.

And also, were marijuana legal, based on what I've read there are ways to use it while filtering some of the carcinogens out. Those ways are referred to as paraphernalia right now (bongs etc.).

I am on the issue. I read your post, you did not read mine. You can say that MJ may be relatively less harmful than other harmful drugs you are comparing it to (your opinion of course), but IMO you can not say harmless without losing all credibility. If you can not see that, then we have no more to discuss... We will have to agree to disagree if you can not see that "harmless" and "carcinogenic" do not belong together as descriptors...

You are obviously not understanding what I am trying to say. And I read your post, as much as you may want to believe that I did not.

I understand exactly what you are trying to say.

One question will clear this up.

Are carcinogens harmful?

Carcinogens are harmful as far as I know.

There are ways to smoke marijuana (based on what I have read) that will filter out carcinogens, but those ways are also illegal right now.

Marijuana is still relatively harmless when compared to other drugs, including those in which are legal (alcohol and tobacco). Look up statistics and tell me how many people die each year from tobacco and alcohol, then find out how many die each year because of marijuana. That is my point.

I corrected it for you...

If something contains carcinogens, it is not possible for it to be relatively harmless compared to anything... It is possible for something containing carcinogens to be relatively less harmful than something else...

Whoever told you that was wrong, or was giving you a gross oversimplification. There were those who felt it might affect themselves in a negative economic fashion and as such they would not have joined the Union otherwise. It was either slavery or no Union. That is a considerable difference in the details.

Peprock seems to be indicating that without slavery there would not have been a USA.
