Meanwhile, economists have been making the beer argument. In a paper titled "Budgetary Implications of Marijuana Prohibition," Dr. Jeffrey Miron of Harvard argues that legalized marijuana would generate between $10 and $14 billion in savings and taxes every year -- conclusions endorsed by 300 top economists, including Milton "Free Market" Friedman himself.

 

This beats the crap out of a bail out in regards to helping the economy.

I am undecided on this because of the medical reasons ONLY but other than that I say no.

Regulation of this drug would put a huge dent in crime and provide additonal tax revenue, as well as take a strain off the courts.

I just think about all the economic possibilities that come with the legalization of marijuana. The funny thing is I've talked to multiple regular weed smokers who don't want it legalized because it's so easy to get and use now the only thing that would change is the price would go up.

 

This is the way I look at it. Weed is so easy to get and consume that anyone who really wants to is already smoking it. So if marijuana being illegal isn't deterring anyone from smoking anyway then why not legalize it and make some money for the rest of the country. (That point is made with the understanding that marijuana has no worse negative physical effects than alcohol or cigarettes.)

I would not be sure that the prices would go up, but it would not surprise me either.

The state of Kentucky would make a lot of money if marijuana was legalized. It used to be, and not sure if it still is, the number one cash crop of the state.

It could increase it, I think. If these drug dealers have no one to sell to they are going to act violently in different ways to provide income. Take a drug dealers drugs away from him and see how else is makes money.

I don't think it would increase it. The mere fact that many drug laws would be off the books would decrease crime by a lot. There are a lot of people in prison right now for drug related crimes.

Not one drink. But I don't think it is any different then being drunk.

I don't think it would increase it. The mere fact that many drug laws would be off the books would decrease crime by a lot. There are a lot of people in prison right now for drug related crimes.

 

But some people are going to be without jobs. I am not saying I support drug trafficing, but those people would be dangerous, IMO, without having a source of income because the government has taken it away.

I agree that there is probably not a huge difference in stoned and drunk. But most people I have seen stoned to the point appear to be "a day late and a dollar short" where as a drunk person tends to be more loud, outgoing, fast paced.

I can tell you that my friend that tried it many years ago and never did it again. She said she tried it and didn't like it. Said just a small amount made her feel very weird. She said it felt equivalent to have MANY drinks at once.
