February 12, 200917 yr I love Bluegrass music. I could listen to Allison Krauss and Union Station all day. I also like Rhonda Vincent, Seldom Seen, Nickel Creek, among others. My cousin has had a gospel Bluegrass band for many years. It's called Higher Vision. She told me just this morning they had been invited to some kind of Bluegrass festival in Nashville this weekend. She was very excited about that.
February 12, 200917 yr I don't have any on my ipod, but I do love to see bluegrass bands live. To watch those guys and gals fingers flying on a banjo or dulcimer and to hear the sweet harmony in a live setting is pretty cool.
February 12, 200917 yr Try 'New Grass Revival'. Don't know if they are still around, but their debut album was Bluegrass with a rock and roll attitude. Their version of 'Calling Baton Rouge' (which came out long before Garth Brooks') is MUCH better. Just awesome.
February 12, 200917 yr BTW, for those that have a sound in their head of what bluegrass sounds like I'd say give this one a listen. Its certainly not what you probably think it is. Quasi-bluegrass. Oh wow! I just took your advice, and gave them a listen. I ended up listening to all six songs on their site. These guys are fantastic! Before now, I never knew they existed, and I've never heard anything quite like them. They have a bluesy quality that runs through every song. Guess you'd call that "Bluesgrass". But there are so many influences going on in each of their songs that, no matter what kind of music you prefer, you'll probably find something to like. Fans of hard core traditional Bluegrass might not care for it; but if you like well written music and enjoy a catchy rhythm, you should give these guys a listen. Now I think I'll go download some of their stuff. :thumb:
February 12, 200917 yr My little cuz is a member of a great Ky bluegrass band called "Kentucky Sassafras". You can sample their music here-----> http://cdbaby.com/cd/kentuckysassafras2 No way. I know this group...they worked for me before! Great group. :ylsuper:

It is an amazing album.
February 13, 200917 yr Can't go wrong with some Dr. Ralph, Flatt and Scruggs, Doyle Lawson, and so on. Bluegrass music is just as true to Kentucky as horse racing and bourbon IMO, this I cherish it the same.
February 13, 200917 yr Bluegrass Yes!!! Country sucks !!! Bluegrass is more akin to folk music , of which I am a big fan .
February 13, 200917 yr I like most bluegrass groups, but my favorites would be Blue Highway and Don Rigsby.
October 6, 201016 yr I've pretty much always got Dr. Ralph Stanley, Jim & Jesse, Del McCoury and John Hartford somewhere in my music rotation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fXXkybycsU (You've got to at least watch him doing the "John Hartford Shuffle" while he's playing the banjo - around 3:14 in the video.)
