I honestly didn't even see a shove, but if Riley indeed shoved Lother, why was no foul called? Again, the only time I ever saw Lother on the ground was when Riley was bringing the ball up and Lother set up for a charge and Riley ran in to him and he fell. As soon as the foul was called on Lother, Riley and I believe JJ helped him up. Riley is a great kid and never gets rattled. I've seen him plenty of times to know this. He definetly wasn't rattled or frustrated last night...hell, the kid was Holmes' second leading scorer. BTW, you're the only one who has said Riley was frustrated and there was a lot of jawing...NOBODY else has said anything like that...FWIW.....

 

I'd say Grote and Special K's subpar performances had a lot to do with Holmes defense. Henley put together a great gameplan to stop those two, which is why Grubbs and Watson had such a good game down low. It's no coincidence that Highlands struggled from outside last night and so did both Grote and K...Holmes perimeter defense was pretty good and the two three's that Highlands hit were DEEP three's.

 

If we're going to play the "if those two get on track card" though...what happens if Rico isn't on the bench in foul trouble the majority of the game and JJ gets on track and scores more than 2 points? You know I'm a HUGE fan of both Holmes and Highlands, but honestly I'm just putting it in perspective as an outsider and not letting my bias get in the way of my observations. Highlands played an extremely good game but it was obvious who the better team was and probably will be if they play again.

 

It was on an inbounds play for Holmes under Highlands basket. Riley was trying to get position to recive the inbounds pass. Lother was up tight in his grill and Riley with both hands shoved him. A foul was called . Sounds like you may have missed it. Riley did have a fine game. Where did I say there was a lot yapping? I was just pointing out that Pitmann had indeed woofed after someone said he hadn't. No big deal. I don't mind a little woofing now and then. I just don't like it when people try to pretend things haven't happened for their team when they had indeed happened. I wasn't impressed with the Dawgs D. Grote and Kowolonek missed a lot of open looks. What Holmes did do well was hit the defensive glass. No too many second opportunities for the Birds.

Yea I know what you're talking about now. I wouldn't necessarily call it a shove though. It was more Riley just trying to get by and Lother stepping in and getting knocked down with the body. It was a good offensive foul call...shouldn't have warranted a tech. like you originally stated though. I really didn't see Pittman talking trash at all but he may have said a few things after the dunks...who wouldn't though? They were big time plays at key moments in the game. Holmes did hit the defensive glass hard.

After elijah got the huge two-hand and one dunk, he started to hand the ball to the Highlands defender. He asked the Highlands guy if he wanted an autograph on the ball. Suprised he didn't get T'ed up for that, there was a ref right there.

Just had to chime in here. Obviously you never went to either Holmes or HC. There is no inbetween with the rivalry between these schools no matter the records of either team!!

 

I don't think this is nearly as big of a rivalry as it used to be. Just my opinion though.

Haha... See I really like Pittman I think this stuff is hilarious. I'm tired of hearing about him "jawing" with the other teams. Sometimes I'm sure it gets heated... the same way it does for every team or player at times... but for the most part he reminds me of Terrence Williams from U of L. He just has a good time and loves playing the game. I think he's usually being funny when he's "jawing." Let's just appreciate these athletes and quit trying to find something to complain about to bring them down. :thumb:

Well of course they don't when they play each other, but I think there are a lot of HC people that wouldn't mind seeing Holmes win state... if they aren't able to beat them in districts first of course.

Come on now guys, you can't be serious. You both know I'm as big of a Birds fan as you but to say Highlands gets no calls is absolutely ridiculous.

I follow Highlands football much closer than I do basketball. I have personal ties to the Holmes program which is the reason I follow them more during basketball season. Honestly though, and this is meant with no disrespect so please don't take it the wrong way, but what teams I support doesn't really concern you.

Didn't say HHS didn't get all the calls. 9th region refs are usually consistently bad. As far as Riley it was a blatant 2 hand shove brought by frustation. For you to say other wise is shading your crdeibilty in this one. Just because you help someone up after you put them on the floor has not merit on how the foul should be called. Lother was running his mouth, and that got him shoved to the floor. As far as HHS best performance. Don't think so. Both Grote and Kowolonek had subpar performances. Those get on track and HHS has a great shot in the next game, if there is one. You are usually very objective when discussing the Dawgs. But you're off base on some of this stuff.

The lady ref that did Holmes game tonight is absolutely horrible and has been horrible all 3 times I've seen her do Holmes games. At one point she was the only one blowing the whistle. IMO she needs to realize this isn't girls basketball and let the boys play a little. BTW..she's a Holy Cross grad I believe.............

 

99.99% of the refs are graduates of a local high school. Do you think that they shouldn't be able to do games that involve their "high school's rivals" ? If so then we better get our refs from another state. We couldn't get them from Ohio or Indiana because Northern Kentucky schools play some of these teams. I don't see where her being from HC needed to be mentioned. If you thought she did a bad job just say so. I think her being from HC would probally make her bias for Holmes not against them if she did have a bias which I don't think she does.
