February 8, 200917 yr If he is so great then why can't he stick around anywhere? I will give it to you all that the idea of the system may work but he can not stick through it and can not change. Just not a very good coach. The tough ones are there through thick and thin. Where did you want him to stick around? He was blackballed after blowing the whistle on Mumme and crew at UK. When he had an offer to leave Troy (after finally getting a chance again) it was a step up to go to Auburn. If you think it was The System that got him the out at Auburn, then you are way wrong and know very little about it. Also, BTW The System has changed through the years. Tony is a good teacher/coach. JMHO. :thumb:

I was there and I know exactly what happened before everyone jumps on me. I saw what happened and knew what was said. He didn't agree with Mumme and that's fine but DID NOT need to right that book. This seems to be one of those topics to agrre to disagree that's all. We obviously have different opinions and that's cool.

February 9, 200917 yr Your right it does say a lot about Franklin. He would love a chance to get at Troy. I hope Troy runs all over him and gets him out of town like Auburn did. This system that he has doesn't work. He isn't the right guy to run it. He was just a blip on the screen and needs to go back and write another book or sell out again. He goes around and tries to put these systems into high school and makes a ton of money doing that he doesn't need to be in college. I may get into a little trouble for all that but Coach Franklin and I DO NOT get along. Let's just say we don't see eye to eye. Again this is all one mans opinion. You can say what you want about him personally...but the above Bolded is ludicrous. There are many....many high school teams that have had a ton of success in a short amount of time.
February 9, 200917 yr I agree high school may do well with the system but this is a college football thread that's what I was comparing it to. The overall system does work just not with him calling it. There are plenty of teams out there that the spread works with, but Tony's part hasn't worked in big time college...yet. Look I'm not trying to fight anyone over this but I look at what happened at Auburn and saw he lasted 7 months (or whatever it actually was).

At the high school level it is very diificult to defend this offense. I will give you that. But when you get to the college level the speed of the game changes everything. When your ends can drop into coverage and run with a running back a lot of things are taken away. Penn is correct in everything he says. Especially about this topic!

February 9, 200917 yr Didn't the system work well at Troy, well enough that Auburn came calling? It's hard to fully implement a system in a few months, especially when the talent on hand isn't a good fit and not all of the coaching staff is on the same page when it comes to running it. I'm not making excuses for Franklin ... it didn't work at Auburn, at least in the short run. But the personal animosity shown towards him on here is striking, and frankly, some of those lose their credibility when it comes to their criticism of him.

Franklin did not even get 1 season or any recruits for his system to make it work. Not entirely his fault.

February 10, 200917 yr Penn has more credibility when discussing this topic more than anyone in the topic...believe it!
February 10, 200917 yr Look I'm not trying to fight anyone over this but I look at what happened at Auburn and saw he lasted 7 months (or whatever it actually was). So, what happened at Auburn? Enlighten us. :notworthy:
