SouthernSportsFan Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 "Is it always supposed to be easy? I'm not the kind of guy who likes to run from a fight. I like to find the fight and win the fight after I find it. Those tough times really define your legacy." He also seems to appreciate the criticism he receives whenever Kentucky loses. "I don't want to coach anywhere where they don't want you to win every single game," Gillispie said. "If you're playing for fifth place, don't bring me in. "I'm coming for first place. I'm coming to cut down the nets. I'm coming to get the best recruits because that's how you win." Read more: Clyde sets it straight...
MJAlltheWay24 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Only read the quotes that you posted, but I like what I am hearing there.
footballfeverky Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Thats great lip service, but I think he his in a fight he is not tough enough to win.
NHS BIG DADDY Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Well it appears he can talk the talk, but that doesnt mean much. You gotta show me.
iceking Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Wonderful sales pitch from the used car saleman.
spe690 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 You can have the best recruits in the country, but doesn't mean squat if those recruits are coached. Just throwing in my 2 cents...
ColonelCrazy Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 You can have the best recruits in the country, but doesn't mean squat if those recruits are coached. Just throwing in my 2 cents... You've got to give him some time to implement his system with his recruits. I'm down on this Kentucky team just like everybody else. I'm used to winning and winning big. And I expect to win every game. Right, wrong, or indifferent. The bottom line is that other than Meeks & Patterson, there is not a whole lot of talent on that roster. Liggins is talented but very raw. That's about it. My biggest problem with BCG is the lack of offensive sets that we run. Kentucky very rarely runs an effective offense - unless you consider Jodie taking the ball 1-on-1 or throwing a high-low lob pass to PatPat an offense...which I do not. Give BCG some time to get the guys that fit into his system and that are more talented and let's see where he can take us. He says all of the right things, but the facts of the matter are that he just doesn't have a whole lot to work with right now. I don't want to start a Tubby thread, but Tubby is the guy who is largely responsible for the team that we have now. I think that Tubby could win with this team - maybe more so than BCG; however, these are, for the most part, Tubby's guys and guys who were recruited to fit into Tubby's system. We've got some very talented players on the way for next year.
livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Tubby has zero responsibility towards this team. Man I wish the UK faithful would just let that be. Gillispie came in knowing what players were here, who was being recruited, etc. You say I do not want this to become a Tubby thread then take shots at the man. Look back and even the last several year he had some big time recruits come in. Some went NBA, some were busts, and some played real well last year........I mean he did recruit the Rondo's, Morris's, etc of the world. What Gillespie does NOT DO WELL is coach the talent he has and give them the best chance to win. He is going to coach his style and system regardless who is there. Now when he gets guys that fit his style better then fine but sometimes (as any good high school coach will tell you) you have to adjust to the hand you are dealt and he certainly does not do that. Col. Crazy we do agree that these guys do not fit Billy's system well. We will see that in 2 years!!!!!!!
RockPride Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Nice verbiage......it sounds as if he knows what he wants...can he put it into practice?
ebayer Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 What did you expect him to say ? Exactly:laugh: Is that supposed to make me feel better about him. Just win. The SEC is the weakest that it has ever been. UK doesn't have a point guard... so what? If you can't win with the talent that we have in this SEC then you don't have any business coaching at UK. PERIOD. :irked:
RockPride Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Let me ask this....if Gillispie makes it to the Sweet 16 with this squad, does that take the heat off of him?
John Anthony Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I think he is kindly asking for the recruiting tapes of some of the current players, the last staff watched.
