February 6, 200917 yr Thing of it is, it was not mean to be a shot at UK or the fans or the coach. Gillispie is not a great in game coach, never has been. He was known more as a great recruiter, a tireless worker, and for his ability to turn programs around b/c he could bring in the talent. That's not a knock, its the truth, don't get defensive and lets debate the topic at hand.
February 6, 200917 yr What did I say that's not true? Instead of attempting to ridicule me and bring IU into this, when it has absolutely nothing to do with them, why don't you debate my points which are true? There is absolutely nothing to debate. Your post #24 is totally wrong and nothing anyone says will make any difference to you. It's so ridiculous, it's funny.
February 6, 200917 yr We talking NIT here? When is the last time UK was in the NIT?? Heck, we even made the tourny LAST year...come on now.
February 6, 200917 yr There is absolutely nothing to debate. Your post #24 is totally wrong and nothing anyone says will make any difference to you. It's so ridiculous, it's funny. Hey98, After re-reading my post, sorry if I came on a little strong. You are certaintly entitled to your opinion.
February 6, 200917 yr There is absolutely nothing to debate. Your post #24 is totally wrong and nothing anyone says will make any difference to you. It's so ridiculous, it's funny. There absolutely is something to debate and im not fired up about it, correct me if im wrong but there is a lot of questioning the way Gillispie coaches in game is there not? Am I off base here?
February 6, 200917 yr Hey98, After re-reading my post, sorry if I came on a little strong. You are certaintly entitled to your opinion. Its all good man, things like this are what make the site what it is. Now tell me why im wrong.

February 6, 200917 yr For how long? Mediocritiy is certainly the norm nowadays, and what's funny is seeing all this Gillispie backfire for what you all knew you were getting when he was hired. He's not, nor will he ever be a great in game coach. It's that simple. You don't have to be a great in game coach to coach at UK. You have to be a great recruiter. When Pitino was at UK and he didn't gurad the ball out of bounds some people said he wasn't a great in game coach. Guess what, once he had the best players it didn't matter. If coach G had two more all Americans he would look like a great coach especially if one of them was a PG. Tubby was considered a good in game coach. Who cares, it's UK get all Americans and suck at coaching. Old Roy Williams likes that way best.
February 6, 200917 yr There absolutely is something to debate and im not fired up about it, correct me if im wrong but there is a lot of questioning the way Gillispie coaches in game is there not? Am I off base here? IMO you are way off base. Whatever he has done up to this point in his career got him in a position to become the head coach at UK. I'm not sure what he does or doesn't do well in your eyes or in the eyes of some of the fans...ie his defense, or his day of game practices...but whatever he's done in his coaching career got him one of the top 5 college basketball jobs in the country. Anyone can watch a game and make judgements w/o being there every day. What do those people do for a living? He is a great in game coach. Maybe he just doesn't have the talent or players w/ the mental capacity to do what the fans want. Who cares what the fans want? Do people really not think it has crossed his mind to do something as simple as run Meeks off of screens or play a zone defense? He didn't get into this position b/c people on BGP or "UK fans" know more about basketball than him.

February 6, 200917 yr So, according to your logic here, there should be no debate on UK basketball on BGP. Tell us why you are right 98.
February 6, 200917 yr You tell us why you are right.Gillispie has lost way too many games against far inferior talent. I'll start there.....your turn.
February 6, 200917 yr So, according to your logic here, there should be no debate on UK basketball on BGP. Not at all. I'm saying he's a good in game coach or he wouldn't have been offered the UK job. I'm also saying that a fan base that thinks they know more about coaching than the head coach can be bad. Honest opinion, do you think he's never thought of playing a zone or do you think he just knows it wouldn't work w/ his personell?
February 6, 200917 yr Gillispie has lost way too many games against far inferior talent. I'll start there.....your turn. Every coach loses games to teams w/ inferior talent in their careers. Also, outside of Meeks and Patterson he doesn't have more talent than any teams.
February 6, 200917 yr Also, outside of Meeks and Patterson he doesn't have more talent than any teams. That's crazy! Outside of Michael Jordan the Bulls didn't have superior talent either.
