ScarHeel Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Final. UConn goes to 21-1. First loss in conference play for Louisivlle. Terence Williams had career high 26 points. "The first 5 or 6 minutes belonged to Louisville, the rest of the game belonged to UConn". 795 career wins for Calhoun. UL was 5/17 from 3 land. UConn was 0/8. Thabeet had 14, 11 & 4. 40 of Conn's 68 points were in the paint. 11/45 for the rest of Cardinals team (Minus Williams) 2/16 for Earl Clark.
gametime Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 The Huskies 100% dominated 4 positions all night...
Cdirty107 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 When UConn plays like that, they can blow out anyone in the nation. UL played right into the Huskies strengths, and got embarrassed because of it. Thabeet is all that and then some. What's scary is that he is still very raw. He is going to be special in about 5-6 years.
BoondockSaint Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Absolutely awful game by UofL. Dicky V hit the nail on the head when Robinson went out. The 3 guard attack with Adrien and Thabeet was something UofL couldn't handle at all. T-Will's draft stock just sky rocketed, Earl's just plummeted.
LCPATS Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 UofL was beaten by a beater team. UConn in #1 for a reason. They beat UofL before the game started. Everyone except Williams was afraid to shoot inside. UofL's young post players were outmatched badly. That's to be expected when you are playing Thabeet and Adrien. They are the real deal. It didn't help that Clark didn't show up. I don't know about the "back to Earth comment". 9-0 in January and wins over 4 ranked teams plus WVU and UK in a month is legit. This was a bad night, and the better team won. No shame in that.

UCONN is really good.
MBWC41 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 UConn has a very good ball team. I thought UL would keep it a little closer though.
LCPATS Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 17 point home loss for a team trying to jump into the national championship discussion has to be some sort of reality check. UCONN is really good. That's your opinion. My opinion is that it was a loss to a better team, that is also in the national picture and is ranked #1. UofL has proved their worth over the last month, one loss is not going to change that, like it or not.
RockPride Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 My two cents on this....Louisville flat out got intimidated....Thabeet and Adrian got in their heads and it was over from there. Louisville also didn't attack Thabeet smartly, trying to lob balls over his head towards the basket.....you have to get into his body to be effective.....when they play again, I look for Jennings to be really, really physical with him, and that will certainly pose a difference. Also, Louisville has to shoot the ball moderately well, simply so they can apply an effective pressure defense. U of L is likely disappointed and should be....but they can learn a ton from this game, and I expect another long run of wins starting now.
LCPATS Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 UConn has a very good ball team. I thought UL would keep it a little closer though. Yeah, they should have. Uconn ended the game in the last 5 minutes of the first half. When they went on a 15-2 run. Foul trouble hurt UofL a lot in the first half. The biggest stat is the free throw attempt differential: Uconn-24 UofL-2 This tells the whole story, Uconn was more aggressive.
Wireman Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I think U of L's primary weakness is poor shooting and post play.
