I actually agree with you. I think Jimmy Boeheim would have this team in the top 20 right now with no problems.

You've got too much youth and inexperience, to be a Top 25 team now. No pure shooter from the outside, other than Meeks. No 3-4 legitimate scoring threat, other than Patterson. No PG and one of the worst passing/decision making teams, in the nation.

 

I didn't say the cupboard was bare but it's not ripe enough for 25 wins, this season.

Gillispie is 10-1 at home in SEC games, with the only loss to SC.

Just watched the news and saw the talked about hand shake snub. It looked to me more like a couple of camera guys split them up. However if Im wrong there is no reason for Billy to act like this.

 

I like BCG but I don't think it is any secret that BCG is not going to win any personality contest anytime soon.

I have always thought BCG's strengths were recruting and conditioning...thus the constant man to man. I have never been sold on his game coaching. Couple that with an average team, and there can be some head scratching losses.

Of course there is...

And Gillispie is too darn stubborn to play anything, but man.

This is debatable, one thing is it limits you strategic wise in games.

I don't feel this coach is a good fit for the Cats and I've seen every game the Cats have played this season and last years too.

 

Finally on the last shot by the USC guard, The coach has to be the man, the kids do what they are told. We all have played in some form and you don't give up that attempt.

Simple deny him the ball, run a double to force him to give up the ball.

 

Here is the ironic part of this thread.

All they had to do was penetrate. Liggins did it in the first half and played well, I thought, then he sits the first 9 minutes of the second half? Porter simply is one of the worst players to get major clock in my lifetime of watching UK hoops. Is it his fault, not entirely the coach continues to play him. Why? He can be trusted more that 34.

UK only has three people that can attack the basket...Liggins, Meeks and Miller...that is it. This game screamed for penetration.

Complete opposite from Ole Miss game. The didnt deny reversal, but we jacked up quick shots.

I think BCG is a really good X and O coach. Particularly out of timeouts and particularly in O/B situations.

They win this game and people will remember the play out of a timeout, down one late where they go with a high 1-4 set that created a back door cut for a three point play for Meeks.

Stevenson was supposed to call timeout if they didn't get charge call off inbounds.

All you need to do is look at last year when Patterson went out BCG was brilliant with his game plans.

No point guard (one that can also shoot the apple among other things) = LOSS!...in games like this.

 

And I also think Billy Clyde's motivational tools, such as no playing time for various reasons, mostly associated with practice, is beginning to catch up with him. I'm a little like Iverson when it comes to the subject of practice. Some players are not very good practice people, but they bring it at game time, and that's what counts.

I'm not blaming the loss on the Porter or Liggins, but this team has no leader running the offense. Sure they have two of the top players in the SEC but you can only go so far without a good lead man. With that being said, Perry needs to be able to convert from the line, and the last play was less than spectacular.

This team is careless in transition at times, but with that the get no transition with Porter.

They had three empty trips late with the game at one or two points.

Miller played great for a stretch then he decides to go one on five with a jumper.

As for defense, SC was catching ball at three point line. You allow offensive player to be in triple threat position at this stage. They have to force teams to catch ball away from the arc...you do that by being physical and tough...they didnt do it enough today.

They get a 9 point lead and get lazy and allow Frederick to get two wide open looks for threes...bam...one possession game.

There are things you can do with Downey defensively and they did it for one half. Keep away from arc, stay with him on penetration and dont leave feet.

They didnt do it in the second half...late in the game he was Lofton-like.

This team is not good enough to have as many empty trips as it does. Turnovers are a real issue...I think SC got 28 points off of UK turnovers.

They have no point guard...they have no shot discipline...and it is a bad formula to have.

Last year they could count on Bradley or Crawford and Bradley dominated the ball or directed the offense and they could win close games. This year the ball is being dominated by Porter and Liggins...not a good combo.

I havent read the entire thread but did Billy G think someone other than Downey was going to take the last shot?
