DragonFire Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I think that'd be a good decision. Minnesota is a good fit for him.
ladiesbballcoach Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I think that'd be a good decision. Minnesota is a good fit for him. I agree and a return to Maryland/ACC would put him back into the UK-type mentality. Tubby's system is best fit for players that are going to stay for 4 years and develop. At Minnesota he could do that. Tubby's teams at UK were good when that happened, Prince/Bogans and Daniels/Hayes/Fitch. Tubby system does not translate to the players that are 1-2 and done, Rondo/Morris teams. Tubby recruits players that fit his system and his system while successful at UK did not fit into what the UK fanbase wanted. The marquee of big name recruits to fit the ego that goes along with matching up recruiting wise with Duke/UNC/etc. At Maryland, he would need to do the latter. At Minnesota, he can continue with his successful system and they will love him for it. He is the type of coach that could stay at UM long enough to pass a Rupp/Knight on the alltime win list and maybe challenge 1,000 win number.

Tubby is way too old to challenge those type of numbers and won't stay around in coaching long enough to come towards that.
Gunner11 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 The guy is a good fit no matter where he goes. He has won everywhere he has been because he is a winner.
MountainThunder Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Good decision for Tubby and the Gophers.

He only (yes only considering he's not even half way to 1,000) has 425 wins in 17 1/2 seasons. If he were maybe 47 years old instead of 57 then maybe but not now. Edited January 30, 2009 by ScarHeel

Alabama Larry Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I also saw that and posted it on the Bama sites as I pushed for Bob Knight to come in with a quick fix.
TaylorMadeBoy Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) No way will Tubby go to Arizona, Mark Few has been playing the waiting game for years to coach at Arizona. They love him too much up in Minnesota anyhow for him to leave anyhow. Edited January 31, 2009 by TaylorMadeBoy Added something on
NEERFAN Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Why in the world would Tubby leave Minnesota? Minny is the only D1 school in the state, he can recruit the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and come away with talented players. He's already put them back on the map, plus he won't have to worry about being on the "hot seat" like he would at Arizona or Maryland or any other program. If you were Tubby, would you want the added pressure, he's been there, and done that.
strongopenyon Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 All coaches say they are happy where they are and that they are not interested in any other jobs. And then............
John Anthony Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Very good decision fo the Tubbster. He can handle the expectations at Minnesota and play it how he wants. They would love to have a tourney to sweet 16 team. The Kentucky's and Arizona's of the world that is just getting bye.
buzzer beater Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 He is already turning Minnesota back into a solid basketball program, why would he want to leave. He had a good recruiting class come in this year, and is going to have another one next season. Tubby has turned Minnesota into a winner, things will only get better for him and that program.
