Italian Stallion
This probably needs to happen, but this starts to worry me that Obama might try to change too many things too fast.
shooter
Closing Gitmo is just a continuation of Bush policy.
bballfamily
What is going to happen to the terrorists? Do we want them in our regular prisons? Is there a chance if they are released and their home countries do not want them, they could be released here in the US?

RowdyRedRam
Yeah bring em to our country so their allies can come get them. Wise move......not really. That doesn't really make a lot of sense. They've been stewing in Cuba for the last 7 years and their allies haven't made much of a move to get them. Completely being honest, I think if they are to be released we would be safest if they were released here, so we can keep a close eye on them and if they are to be jailed put them in the general population of inmates. AirYardGo
This could be the dumbest move in political history!
titletownclown
Perhaps if they close Gitmo early enough, the prisoners can take part in the presidential transition process.

titletownclown
Move 'em all to Obama's neighborhood. Actually, having terrorists roaming the streets of DC is not such a bad idea. J/K BGP'ers-please save yourself time and don't type any goofy "irate" responses.

Certain inside the beltway types might see things differently if the result of releasing the Gitmo detainees was a terrorist moving into their neighborhood.

Do you seriously think that there are only 9/11 terrorist suspects in Guantanamo? We do export some of them, so that others can handle our dirty work, but not all of them. And to go along with the second part of your post, think about what you're saying, that we're safest if they're already here? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! These people are FANATICS, not FANS. All they will do here is regroup and restrengthen, trying to teach others their ways. They will be treated as second class citizens, and third class if anyone know's their background. All that does is give them ammo to spread their message about how wrong the US is and how everyone should hate the US, even our own citizens. If you don't buy it then just look at Europe over the past 10-15 years, ESPECIALLY FRANCE. Edited January 14, 2009 by sportsfan41

You think they're going to attack Cuba? Come on man, I know I don't need to explain this one to you. Australia was in talks to tale these prisoners and they backed out. No one will take these guys so were bringin em home, alright. Can't wait.....listen I've been fair to Obama, I'm giving him a fair chance, this is a horrible decision.
