Earls is not the same type of player that Kiernan was. Kiernan was more of a bruiser. Zack had very few post moves to create offense. Most of his points were on second chances and running the floor to get easy baskets. Zack never got outworked and was a heck of a leader.

 

Earls is not as aggressive as Zack was but has much better offensive skills. I think that Boone needs to use him more at the 4 and play him with Trevon Brown.

This is a lineup I predicted at the start of the season. It certainly gives Boone more rebounding and size. Boone was outrebounded big time on the offensive boards last night.

Well since you chose to open this can of worms, I would ask for you to expound on this subject. This team is 11-3 with all three losses being close and you choose to make this statement. Everyone wants to know why the basketball and baseball programs are the way they are and it is because of garbage like this. The football coach walks on water and no other coach at the school whether it be boys or girls can carry a candle to that. Perhaps he could coach them all. I would suggest that if you and other parents have a problem with the way that Willie runs his program perhaps you should address it with him rather than bring it out in a public forum such as this. If you are lucky, maybe he will leave the program for one that appreciates his talents as a coach.

I hope that the Highlands faithful are not unhappy with Willie. I agree with you that he is one of the top 3 coaches in this area.

 

I don't have a dog in the fight but if I had a son playing high school basketball I would love for him to play for Willie.

 

Oh I'm sure that there are some fans unhappy with Willie (isn't that the case with every coach, every where?), but I think it's a very small number. And fortunately, their opinions don't matter beans. The people that count, the Admin, are solidly behind Willie as are a lot of the fans; I know that I am.

Highlands left a few free throws on the floor and this could have been a 55 to 37 game easily. BC plays decent defense but Highlands the last 3 min of the game played keep away and actually passed on some open layups. I think if its a closer game Highlands scores 65 points in this one. JMO

I think some of the reason for that may be communication (or lack of) issues between all involved parties.

 

The season is still early, and Boone still has the potential to do good things and win a district title and go deep in the regional tournament, but everything still has to go right for that to happen.

 

This could be what the problem is for this group. Maybe they play different for their AAU coaches then they do for McQueary. Two different philosophies I am sure and when they are achieving success on the AAU circuit and maybe not so happy with McQueary's style then it can lead to dissent.

 

I like BC's hustle and mix of talent and hope they can get to the 9th region tourney this season. I always like to see the best teams in the tourney.

They may play a more open, less rigid/conservative, disciplined (or whatever you call it) offense in AAU. No doubt, the philosophy is different, and so far, the Boone players haven't been able to understand and/or execute that vision fully yet, for whatever reason. I believe the Boone players have hustled this year so far. However, it's seems as if they are afraid to take a chance or make a mistake, because I also often see tentativeness in the passing and shooting.

Again, there is NO philosophy and NO style. One week they are shooting a ton of threes, the next they are wanting to pitch inside, the next they are pressing, the next they are playing slow down, etc..

 

Create a system, teach the system, tweek the system, execute the system...

I think there is NO doubt that a coach can be the reason for kids not to succeed! The Boone kids could run with about anybody in their region, with the exception of Holmes, and they are standing around watching McFarland try to go 1 on 1? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but it seems that a lot of coaches only know one way to coach and can't adjust to the talent and skills of the current kids that they have on the team.

 

Gabbard and Popp have had very successful careers in AAU ball where they use their quickness and abiltity to create and I just don't see that happening within the current system that Boone plays!

What do you do if you are a coach and your best player doesn't execute what you ask him and the team to do? Do you sit your best player even if you are behind and trying to catch up? :thumb: Big fan of Coach Carr at Scott for that very reason. He has a philosophy and a style of play and when he gets the right group of players he can make a serious run. Players in his program get better. I was talking to one of the parents of the current group of seniors and they won 6 games they said as a freshmen team! It would be interesting to see what Carr would do with the pipeline of talent that has come thru Boone the last few years.

I think Highlands is like a little gnat. It won't kill you, but could drive you crazy. They appear to be everywhere at once.
