Good win for the Birds. I am a little shocked at how well they handled Boone. When do they play Holmes?

I truly believe that if the two coaches in last nights game exchange players that Willie wins 9 out of 10 games no matter which team he is coaching.

 

I agree with this.

I didn't mean to imply that Highlands is not better than Boone. I believe that Highlands is a better team than Boone. I love what Kowolonek brings to the table.

 

I also believe that Willie is one of the top coaches in the region. He does a great job and understands how to prepare his teams.

 

But you can't deny the fact that Boone continues to look un-prepared and unable to make adjustments.

 

With each of the top coaches in this region they all seem to have a style of play that they teach year in and year out. Boone's style of play changes from week to week.

If Highlands is the better team, why then is Boone's coach being brought in to this? It just gets kinda old hearing the same thing after a loss, but when they're winning everything is fine and there's no complaints.

 

I think there is NO doubt that a coach can be the reason for kids not to succeed! The Boone kids could run with about anybody in their region, with the exception of Holmes, and they are standing around watching McFarland try to go 1 on 1? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but it seems that a lot of coaches only know one way to coach and can't adjust to the talent and skills of the current kids that they have on the team.

 

Gabbard and Popp have had very successful careers in AAU ball where they use their quickness and abiltity to create and I just don't see that happening within the current system that Boone plays!

 

So you don't think a lot of that has to do with them playing along side some of Kentucky's finest? Perfect example is their play against the Holmes boys. (Pittman, Johnson Brothers). They beat them on the AAU circuit but in HS got ran out of the gym last year.

 

I don't buy the whole "Coach caused us to lose" theory. A coach can only do so much and the ONLY time Boone's coach is even brought up is after a loss. Same happened last year. Just seems like an easy excuse. Maybe the players just aren't as talented as some of their fans think? That could be a possibility....Even if Boone isn't scoring in the system they're using, they still have to defend which obviously didn't happen last night. Defense is one thing you can't blame on a coach. See Dave Henley with the Jefferson, Rice, Hill group.

Didn't Highlands just hand Boone their worse loss of the year? While also holding them to their lowest point total of the year?

 

I don't think there's any "maybe not" to it. Highlands is the better team.

 

No disrespect to the Highlands players intended as they earned the W but Eta, since you know all the players involved, what if we were in fantasyland and you switched coaches. Who would you pick in the game and would it be a 15 point game either way?

I'm just as big a Highlands fan as Holmes, but be careful what you wish for...

Let me clarify. If you are calling a team the players AND the coaches comprising the TEAM, then I won't argue.

I still think Highlands has the better players though. The Boone Jr. class is very overrated IMO. Solid players and fun to watch, but not what they're touted to be.

Only giving up 51 it doesn't look like defense was the problem!

I do believe Highlands is the better team but a lot of that has to do with the coaching staff. The coaching staff is a big part of the team.

There's only one coach I'd take over Willie in the 9th and anyone who knows me personally, knows who I'm referring to and why. Willie IMO is just as good as Faust and Listerman when it comes to gameplanning.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on the AAU part. The Johnson Brothers and Pittman are all their AAU team has whereas the Shining Stars regularly attract some of Kentucky's best talent. That's the reason the Johnson Brothers/Pittman lose on the AAU circuit to those boys.

Not from me!! I have been the one that said all along that their schedule is soft and they beat the teams that they should beat. The win games early in the season when very little scouting has been done. When the coaches in this region get an opportunity to scout Boone they are able to put a game plan together that Boone can not adjust to.

 

This team has NEVER won because of the coaching. I need to go back and look but I bet if you look at the scores from the last three years they have won very few close games (1 to 3 point games).
