Lol that's true they are, but still as far as the No.2 in NKY goes they are up there. But again, I don't think there is any clear cut No. 2.

I'm shocked, but Highlands plays tough defense and that will lead to wins.

Recap- Birds jumped out large in 1st period handling the double team trap BC put on them. Throwing over top and scoring some easy baskets. Kowolonek scored first couple baskets for Birds. He got silent though for a while. Grote had a nice first half hitting some very nice midrange jumpers. Corey Dill got the start for Highlands and IMO was the Player of the Game for the Birds. He played very solid defense on McFarland, rebounded the ball, got a ton of loose balls and made a couple nice unselfish assists in the game down low. Dill also hit some nice 4 footers in the lane in traffic. Thos IMO are some of the toughest shots to hit.

 

Boone Co couldnt get into any flow and their guards were pretty much non-factors tonight. They are exceptionally quick and play very good defense but offensively they struggled. Gabbard had some nice drives and shots in 2nd half. Earls was pretty much a non-factor. I saw glimpses of what he could be when he bangs and goes hard but only saw it twice in the game. Let me start off by saying McFarland is a very good basketball player. Tonight he tried to do too much in the 2nd half and it hurt the Rebels. Many times it was 4 BC players staniding around watching McFarland pound the ball with his head down and shoot. I thought they should have posted Earls better and gotten him the ball on the block more.

 

Birds had terrible 2nd qtr and BC cut the lead to 25 to 21 at half.

 

Birds came out strong in 3rd handling the pressure. Lother did a nice job hitting a couple big 3 pointers but he gets himself into spots he shouldnt at times. Very tough to do against the swarming BC guards. For the most part he did a nice job beating the press his man up the floor and making some nice passes.

 

Birds mixed in a 3/2 packed in zone and BC just didnt have anyone that could knock it down and they just kept trying to force it down low. Only success came off Gabbard splitting the zone and hitting a couple floaters. Kowolonek got a big 3pt play in the 2nd half on a baseline drive. BC never got any closer than the score at the half. Birds kept a 10 pt lead most of the game.

 

I will agree it was a very physical game and only having 2 referees definitely played in the favor of the Birds. A lot of hand checking, physical trapping and banging down low. Maybe not the prettiest game by the Birds but they held a very good BC team to 37 points and that is very impressive.

 

Congrats to Coach Schlarman and the Birds on getting the big Home Victory.

Kind of a weak crowd tonight for such a big game. Just an observation.

Ugly game. Neither team looked good, and Boone looked terrible. I am not totally surprised by the result for reasons I don't care to discuss anymore. It was a VERY physical game. Earls did not have a good game for Boone. Nobody really stood out to me offensively on either team. Highlands sat in a zone in the second half, and Boone continued to try to pound the ball inside. Congrats to Highlands.

 

Wasn't there, but can you say outcaoched if this is true?? BTW--"Willie-Ball" has been known to create a lot of "ugly games" and wins!!

Nice win for Highlands. Everything aside from Holmes is so unpredictable. I have watched Highlands a couple of times and have thought they were not too impressive. But they stopped a good Boone team so that says something.
