I must have missed something then because all I've really read throughout this thread is "had the coach done this or had the coach done that" and really no mention of the players, outside of a few posts from a Highlands fan.

I believe Earls had a subpar game, and did not play strong. I think he scored only 4. He had a couple shots blocked and could not finish well from the block. He also had several passes go through or bounce off his hands. Going in, with Boone's style of play, I figured that Earls would have to have a good game.

 

At least 2 of Boone's players did receive interest from small D1 schools after having good AAU seasons.

I agree. I personally think Highlands has the best chance at knocking Holmes off out of any other team in NKY.

Earls seemed to struggle against a big defender with quickness. Fades away from the rim too much rather than using his big 6'6 frame and just going straight up.

Yes. He tends to want to shoot fade-away shots instead of going to the rim, which is why he often can't rebound his own missed shots.

How many turnovers, missed shots, and defensive breakdowns did the coach have last night, it sounds like he played pretty bad. My point is, you win as a team and you lose as a team. Coaches and players together. Boone is a very good team that can get better as the season goes on. The worst thing that can happen to them right now in the middle of the season, is to pit the players against the coach and point alot of fingers at each other. After all they are not going to change coaches in the middle of the season. If this TEAM wants to go deep in the tournament they need to pull together, execute their offense's, defense's, game plans to a tee, and focus on the task at hand. Good luck to the Rebels and coaching staff, over coming adversity will make you stronger.

I agree that you win and lose as a team. Hopefully, Boone can learn from the loss. Players need to continue to play hard and have fun, regardless, because they can only control how smart and hard they play.

Kiernan is a good comparison. Earls would have to get A LOT stronger to be anywhere near what he was inside though.

WOW! I just saw this thread. I guess I'll eat my crow. Give the birds some credit. This is a great win and to only hold Boone to 37 is really good. Im impressed. I still think Boone is very dangerous, but my respect for Highlands is growing.

This team has not been together for a while. I think that the coaches, players and parents will tell you that this team has not been together for the past couple of years. I don't believe they will ever be on the same page again. The players have lost faith in the coaching staff a long time ago.

The biggest part of coaching is the ability to bring players together, manage egos and get everything going in the proper direction and that has not happened at Boone.

I think some of the reason for that may be communication (or lack of) issues between all involved parties.

 

The season is still early, and Boone still has the potential to do good things and win a district title and go deep in the regional tournament, but everything still has to go right for that to happen.

Earls is not the same type of player that Kiernan was. Kiernan was more of a bruiser. Zack had very few post moves to create offense. Most of his points were on second chances and running the floor to get easy baskets. Zack never got outworked and was a heck of a leader.

 

Earls is not as aggressive as Zack was but has much better offensive skills. I think that Boone needs to use him more at the 4 and play him with Trevon Brown.
