Fortunately, this young man is not defined by basketball although I think that he could have played at some level next year. As I understand, Mitch is a very good student and person, so I am sure that he will bounce back stronger than ever for the important things in life.

I wouldn't rule out Mitch playing in college if he wants to. I know of at least one school that is interested and his lack of PT won't hurt his cause.

No one on this team has shown that they can relieve Luke Maile of the responsibility for scoring. One kid was 2/12 last night. Can't happen on this team and them have a chance to win. From an outsider's perspective, I would suggest Luke get more touches than he has so far. He gets a lot now but he needs more due to him being the only scoring option.

 

Put a saddle on him. We're halfway through the season and no other player has said "I'm your guy" so lets ride with the kid we know can handle it physically and mentally. Its not ideal but its where this team is right now.

Against Beechwood it looked like Listerman was still looking for his top 5. I don't think it is the guards. He has got to get more from his inside guys. If his inside guys can become better, then I think he has the shooters to kick it back out and hit the open J. The good news, with Maile, CCH will be a threat to beat almost anyone. Maile is a contender for player of the year in N. Ky.

I would disagree and I'd argue we have not seen it this year other than a few times. It certainly didn't happen last night.

Buettel and Romes combine for 35 of their 55. I think I said in the prediction thread that their guard play was going to be too much. Romes nailing all 6 of his Freebies showed great senior leadership as well.

 

Romes really came with something to prove against his old school. I don't know where Beuttel went though, he was no where to be found in the 2nd half. Shows Romes is the leader of this team.

Honestly, I think Maile needed a break. He had to work so hard for every shot because of the great defense Romes played. Maile actually sat a little in Q4 to re-energize for the stretch run, and it almost worked as he hit several key shots in the last minute to give CovCath a chance.

 

Also, as I said in an earlier post, I think Listerman is trying to find his team. Even in this game, I don't think he wanted to sell out his system just to win this game. He kept trying different combinations and different schemes looking for something that would work but Beechwood was just too well coached and solid to break. At tournament time if it still looks the way it does now, don't be surprised to see Maile scoring 30. I think he can do it if they decide to run everything through him and that may be what Listerman ends up having to go to to get this team as far as it can go.

I think part of that might have to do with Buettel having some pretty serious back problems that just got re aggravated within the past week or so. He's been in therapy all week so he may have been starting to get sore towards the end of the game.

It was good to see a few of the Colonels on the mend. Isler did not have to leave the game and race to the restroom. Pauly was able to play a couple of minutes here and there. Counts was in the lane banging, bodies flying. Counts is never going to make anyone forget about Elijah Pittman, but he adds a physical edge to Cov Cath's inside game.

Coach L has had success with certain combinations which doesn't include playing 11-12 deep from the bench during games. He needs to go back to what worked in those wins and close games and stick with it and he just might be surprised. It is interesting that at one point Beechwoods inside starters were out of the game and Thielen, Wellbrock, and Isler were sitting on the bench. Why not create coverage issues and miss matches.
