Coach Shumate was on the radio after the game and it didn't sound as serious as it looked. I agree, I was worried for him during the game. He sat in his chair for almost the entire second half with an ice pack on his neck and a trainer looking over his shoulder. But he seemed to be ok on the radio after the game.

What station is broadcasting 9th Region basketball this year?

The team that deserved to win, won tonight. They played as a team, and I was impressed with Romes. Also hats off to Pohlgeers for sealing the deal at the end. That's some pressure. Beechwood flat out won this game and they deserved to.

CovCath, well what is there to say? I guess if I look at it from a positive perspective, they played pretty ugly and still managed to make a 5 point ball game out of it, admittedly it was not always that close throughout though. This team needs to find a way to play as a team. 4 times in a row, Covcath threw the ball away on their posession, I believe in the first or second quarter. Doing that will never win ball games. The stand around offense and then throwing up shots thing is a bit tired as well. Need to start moving and USING picks instead of acting like youre making them. And the substitutions tonight were..questionable to say the least. This team needs to learn to play as ONE as opposed to a bunch of individuals or this next month and some change is going to be a loooong one.

That all being said, I have a feeling Beechwood and CovCath will meet again later on in the season ;) Congrats to Beechwood!

Hmmm Holy Cross might have something to say about that...:fight:

lol no I agree and understand. I think it could go either way to be honest, depending on how bad CovCath plays that night. I just think Beechwood and Covcath might have a chance for a rematch.

I agree that Beechwood is a good ball club, but IMO they will be the three seed in the district and will play HC at HC.

Honestly, I see Holy Cross taking the 2 seed and playing Beechwood first game of the districts (at HC).

I've seen all three and honestly Beechwood is BY FAR the best of the trio. They have the one thing neither HC or CCH have...good guard play and a TALL big man to force teams to play outside.

Holy Cross won't be able to get inside or score enough to beat Beechwood and playing a slow down stall game against Covcath will actually benefit CCH more than HC.

We'll be seeing a Beechwood-CCH rematch in late Feb. Mark it down.

Can anyone give a recap of the game? I think we all got the idea that it's a good win for Beechwood. Who played for CovCath? Did Maschinot run the point alot again? Who played well? Who had all the turnovers that have been mentioned? Were there three to four sophs on the floor together again?

Listen to it via the CovCath Internet archives

Box Score:

Covcath 6 17 5 22- 50

Beechwood 15 11 11 18- 55

Covcath (3-10)- Maile 9 0 20, Thelen 3 2 8, Mashinot 2 0 6, Ives 2 0 5, Wellbrock 2 0 4, Wilson 1 0 3, Isler 1 0 2, Counts 1 0 2

Beechwood (9-2)- Romes 4 12 20, Beuttel 5 3 15, Pohlgeers 2 3 8, Smith 2 0 4, Daniels 1 1 4, Snyder 1 1 3

3 Pointer- CCH Maile (2), Mashinot (2), Ives; BW- Beuttel (2), Pohlgeers, Daniels

Buettel and Romes combine for 35 of their 55. I think I said in the prediction thread that their guard play was going to be too much. Romes nailing all 6 of his Freebies showed great senior leadership as well.

By Far? Come on, they beat CCH by 5 on an off night from CCH and at their gym.

I have heard that prediction from you before when HC went up against Scott, Ryle, and Holmes and usually HC (Egan and Sullivan) are fine. Getting inside has not decided any of those games you said it would and I think they will be fine.

District 35 tmt @ Holmes this year, HC next year.

I will say there was one bright spot for CovCath; Maschinott played with confidence tonight. He was 2/2 FG and 2/2 3PT and he had a HUGE steal/interception late in the game to bring it close. Some have said he is not ready for prime time. To them I say he stepped up big tonight.

.

Confidence is a huge factor with Connor. The athletic ability has never been questioned. Good to hear he looked good.

To be clear , he made 2 shots (both 3s).

He'll continue to improve.

So where does CovCath go from here? What does/can Coach L do with the tools left in the tool box?
