Beechwood 55 Covington Catholic 50

Featured Replies

By Far? Come on, they beat CCH by 5 on an off night from CCH and at their gym.

I have heard that prediction from you before when HC went up against Scott, Ryle, and Holmes and usually HC (Egan and Sullivan) are fine. Getting inside has not decided any of those games you said it would and I think they will be fine.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think you'll be surprised when you see Beechwood though. Again, mark it down...they WILL get the #2 seed with CCH getting the 3 seed.

Confidence is a huge factor with Connor. The athletic ability has never been questioned. Good to hear he looked good.

To be clear , he made 2 shots (both 3s).

He'll continue to improve.

Well, he did shoot 100%. He only took two shots. Not sure of minutes, but played a lot and only had two turnovers. Several steals, and assists as well.

The turnovers for the team were too many again (16) and most of them were bad passes by bigs to bigs inside and the perimiter.

How is Pauley feeling? He didn't look so good after the game.

Not good. Could be down for a bit

Ouch.

Ouch.

Yep.

He played very well. My point in saying he made 2 shots was that previous post would indicate to some that he made 4 shots.

As soon as Conner realizes he belongs on the floor with older kids, his game will improve dramatically. There won't be many better athletes on the floor than him.

Sorry - I missed the earlier post. I agree. I think last night was a big one for him and his confidence. Highlands was a very tough game for a first start and he got rattled big time with the two quick fouls. Lookked not only like he felt like he belonged, but the rest of the Cov Cath team I think felt much more confident in him. They were giving him the ball to bring it up almost every time, and both of his three's were big and the team mates seemed to forget he was a soph and thought of him strictly as a team mate.

I personally think that is something else that has been an issue witht his team that I do not think has been mentioned. It certainly seems to some who have been to most of the games, that often the upperclassmen do not like being replaced in the game by the young guys.(I still saw some of it last night) Hopefully the guys will realize that it is on team, and they need to play as a team if they are going to have any success this year.

Has not been mentioned yet I think, sorry if it has, but the JV boys from Cov Cath won again, to run their record to a perfect 11 and 0!

Maschinot will be fine. He just needs to stop with the one handed push pass. That is where his turnovers come from, and one was from just a bad decision to pass it inside on good coverage.

The answer is NOT getting Maile more touches. That is just laughable. The kid has the ball the entire game, and half the time he sees a man on his team open and either completely disregards it and takes a shot, or drives right into his own man. He is lucky his shots fall, cause if not everyone would be singing a totally different tune about the way he has issues with passing. It would benefit him, and probably cause him to get more points [and it has in the past] if he would pass it off more. I've heard many times people yelling for him to just give the ball up. He IS our scoring threat, but it doesnt help anyone else be a scoring threat when one player has the ball the entire game.

Listerman isn't trying to find his top 5 still. He knows who they are. He just doesn't make smart substitutions. Sometimes he misses mismatches on the court completely. Everytime he goes deep into his bench, they struggle. Playing his top 7 or 8 is his answer.

And Beechwood is good, don't get me wrong, but ETA you're acting like they are the hot mama jama..lol. Holy Cross has a shot and CovCath has a shot at beating them if they meet again. They only beat CovCath by 5, and admittedly CovCath isn't even in the top 10 AND had a bad night.

It isn't the upperclassmen necessarily. It is usually TWO kids who make a scene when they get taken off the floor regardless of whether it be another upperclassmen or it could be a freshmen. Either way they are going to throw a little fit. And one of the kids who used to make a little scene actually hasnt been doing too bad with it lately lol. Still, youre right, they need to play as a team..it's been a problem the whole year.

I agree about the scene when being removed from the game. I am not necessarily talking about that. More than one of the sophs have heard upperclassman talking off the floor, and 'complaining' about coach taking them out and playing the young guys.

I agree completely with you on the push pass. He does it way too much. Worst part is, he is not the only one who tries the push pass too much

I know. That push pass kills us.

And trust me I know what youre talking about with some of the upperclassmen and I know which ones they are and have heard it as well. They need to get over it, and actually one of the kids usually plays like a minute now so I'm thinking some other people got sick of it too. :)

Also wanted to comment on the JV game. Drew Baker had a real nice game for them, and I still like Reidinger a lot at guard!

I never said they were the "hot mama jama?"

I was just stating that they're better than some of the HC faithful were giving them credit for. They beat Covcath by 5...who cares? A win is a win, Right? They led by double figures practically the whole game but couldn't finish, which allowed CCH to make it interesting at the end. (Kudos to CCH for fighting back when they got down.)

I personally think Covcath would win a rematch with the Tigers, but AT THIS POINT, having seen Beechwood, HC, Covcath, and Holmes, Beechwood is the second best team in the district. We'll know more here in a little less than a month when HC plays Beechwood on Feb. 4th.

Yes they are the 2nd best team in the district. But it's pretty much even. Holy Cross, CovCath and Beechwood can all beat each other on any given night IMO.

And yes, a win is a win lol. Wish you would use that mentality when it comes to your own team! :)

They all three have strengths that the other doesn't have, so yea I could agree that they're pretty much even, with a SLIGHT advantage to Beechwood.

Beechwood probably has the most offensive firepower and best guards of the three..

Covcath has the overall size and inside advantage with Thelen, Isler, and Wellbrock.

Holy Cross is probably the best defensive team.

Again, we'll know more here in about a month.

As far as the second comment, I try...I really do. lol...and you know that, but you know how I can be sometimes.... :idunno:;)
