Time Warner Cable Losing 19 Channels?

Featured Replies

So I'm sitting here watching TV when all of a sudden a message appears along the bottom of the screen stating that tonight I'm going to lose 19 channels. I live in Ashland and have Time Warner Cable. I tried looking up information online about what's going on but could find nothing. Anyone know anything?

I hate Time Warner. That kind of stuff is why I'm now a DirecTV customer.

This is the first that I have heard about this. I will be checking. I agree with the poster above in that Time Warner is doing this kind of thing all the time. I will also be checking into direct t.v..

This should help explain what is going on with Time Warner. It looks like you would lose all of the channels owned by MTV. Those would include

MTV (Standard-definition/high-definition channel)

MTV2

MTV Tr3́s

MTV Hits

MTV Jams

mtvU

Palladia (high-definition channel)

VH1 (Standard-definition/high-definition channel)

VH1 Classic

VH1 Soul

CMT (Standard-definition/high-definition channel)

CMT Pure Country

Comedy Central

Logo

Nickelodeon (Standard-definition/high-definition channel)

Nick 2

The N

Noggin

Nicktoons Network

Spike TV (Standard-definition/high-definition channel)

TV Land

Nick at Nite

Nick GAS

PBS Kids Sprout(Co-owned)

Time Warner Cable refuses to pay the increased cost that Viacom is demanding.

The channels that would be affected are: Comedy Central, CMT: Pure Country, Logo, Palladia, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, MTV Tr3s, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic, and VH1 Soul.

I already said that. :p

I have news for Time Warner - if that particular list of channels is gone, then my family is gone, as well.

Wow, I did not realize MTV owned all of that.

We have DirecTV; and watch Comedy Central, TVLand and Nickelodeno quite a bit.

I saw this message also. It may be true, but my take on it is that it is nothing more than an advertisement for Dish Network or Direct TV. I would bet if you call the number that flashed across the screen you will be talking to a Dish Network or Direct TV associate.

If it does happen, like others have stated,I will also be making a change.

I could do without all of these channels except Spike, go to have my UFC.I hope Insight does not do the same.

Time-Warner is indeed a crummy cable company, but I can't really fault them for taking a stand somewhere. The cable companies are getting strong-armed all the time from companies like Viacom, Disney (ABC/ESPN), Fox, and others for increased carrying rates. Just another example of an industry being incapable of regulating itself.

Out of the channels listed that would be affected, we watch CMT, TV Land and Comedy Central quite a bit.

As for all of the MTV/VH1 channels I have to admit that I would say...thank you very much for cleaning them off my t.v. and good riddins'.

At any rate, I don't like to have anything taken away that I am not notified of, especially if I am paying for the service!:irked: I haven't seen any of these notices on the screen. I think that a company should notify you by mail that changes like this are coming and not by you seeing it by chance on t.v. whenever the times they decided to run it.

Hopefully, this is a ploy by another service as cvillecat suggested. I have in the past saw some other similar changes across the screen that never happened

I also just tried to call our local Time Warner office in Ashland....was put on hold by a recording saying they had an unusual amount of calls , I waited 30 minutes and no response .

Should anyone reading this have direct tv I would ask how you like it, any problems, troubles with it, etc.,etc, and most of all can you get all of the U.K. basketball games?

We are negotiating earnestly, honestly and fairly with MTV Networks, but so far have been unable to reach an agreement or get an extension.

MTV Networks may pull its channels from your lineup on January 1st.

• MTV Networks wants our customers to pay millions more. They are currently demanding price increases that are nearly triple the rate of increase under our current agreement. These increases would be excessive even in a strong economy, but given the current conditions, it’s simply not fair to our customers.
